Faithful Dog

The Loyalty of a Dog That Never Gave Up

By SAHIB AFRIDIPublished 6 months ago 3 min read

In a quiet village near the mountains, lived a man named Rahim.

He was a simple farmer, honest and kind-hearted.

Rahim had a dog named Sheru, with golden fur and deep, thoughtful eyes.

Sheru had been with him since he was a little pup.

They shared every part of their lives—morning walks, meals, and even silence.

Every day, Sheru followed Rahim to the fields and sat nearby as he worked.

When the sun set, they would walk home together side by side.

To the villagers, they were more than man and dog—they were best friends.

One cold winter evening, the sky grew dark and heavy with snow.

Rahim decided to go deep into the forest to check on a storage hut.

Sheru barked and pulled at Rahim’s sleeve, sensing danger.

But Rahim smiled and gently pushed him back, asking him to stay.

He disappeared into the trees as snow began to fall harder.

That night, Rahim didn’t return.

The villagers searched through the forest, calling his name, but he was nowhere to be found.

Sheru waited at the forest’s edge, staring into the darkness.

He stayed there all night, howling softly, hoping Rahim would come back.

Days passed, then weeks, and Sheru didn’t move from his spot.

Snow piled up around him, but he refused to leave.

People from the village brought him food and water.

They tried to take him home, but he always ran back.

He waited through the seasons—winter, spring, and summer.

Children would come and sit beside him, watching his quiet loyalty.

Old villagers said they had never seen anything like it.

One spring day, a hunter returned from deep in the woods.

He had found Rahim’s storage hut, buried in snow.

Near it were Rahim’s tools and torn pieces of his coat.

The truth was clear—Rahim had been caught in a snowstorm and never made it home.

The village mourned and held a small funeral.

Sheru sat by the grave the entire time, silent and still.

From then on, he never returned to the forest’s edge.

Instead, he lay beside the grave every night, keeping watch.

His fur grew thin, and he walked slower, but he stayed loyal.

Villagers came every day to see him, bringing food and soft blankets.

He had become a symbol of true love and loyalty.

One peaceful morning, they found Sheru lying still by the grave.

His head rested gently against the stone, eyes closed forever.

He had finally joined his friend.

The villagers buried him beside Rahim.

On the stone between them, they carved:

"Here lie two friends—man and dog—faithful until the end."

People still visit the village to hear their story.

Children grow up learning about Sheru’s devotion.

And the taleof the faithful dog lives on, touching every heart.

"Faithful Dog" tells the touching story of Sheru, a loyal dog whose bond with his owner, Rahim, surpasses even death. After Rahim is lost in a snowstorm during a trip to the forest, Sheru waits for weeks at the forest’s edge, refusing to believe his friend is gone. When Rahim’s body is discovered, Sheru mourns silently, moving to his owner’s grave and keeping vigil every day. Despite villagers’ attempts to care for him, Sheru remains loyal to the end. His devotion becomes a symbol of unconditional love, drawing attention and admiration from everyone who hears the tale. In his final moments, Sheru dies peacefully beside Rahim’s grave. The village buries him next to his friend, honoring a love so rare and pure. A stone between their graves reads, “Here lie two friends—man and dog—faithful until the end.” Their bond remains eternal, a legend that warms hearts for generations.
