Facts That You Didn’t Know About Your Body

Science wasn't everyone's favorite subject in school, but today's topic will be more exciting and easier to understand. We have interesting facts about the human body that may be hard to digest, but worth listening to. Did you know that your brain can generate enough electricity to power a small light bulb? When you're awake, your brain produces about 15 to 25 watts of electricity, enough to keep a low-wattage LED lamp shining. Additionally, your brain generates around 50,000 random thoughts per day. Contrary to common belief, people use most of their brain capacity, even when they're asleep. Brain scans have debunked the myth that we only use 10% of our brain. Lastly, human teeth are as strong as sharp teeth.

On average, sharks possess 15 rows of strong teeth in each jaw. In fact, they are born with a complete set of teeth and can protect themselves from a very young age. Sharks are fortunate creatures that do not suffer from dental problems or cavities, and their teeth are as sturdy as human teeth. Now, for the interesting part: the enamel that covers the top of your teeth is the hardest substance in your entire body. Depending on its acidity, stomach acid can even eat through your skin and cause damage. Hydrochloric acid is a typical component of human stomach acid and can corrode metals and the human body. However, it protects the immune system and eliminates viruses and bacteria in the food people eat. Moreover, the acid aids a specific enzyme in breaking down protein-based products so that your body can digest them more easily. Lastly, a super cute fact about your stomach: if you blush, the inside of your stomach will turn red as well. In addition to its fascinating properties...

Human hair is incredibly durable and its flammability is almost non-existent. Moreover, it is an integral part of our body that holds a wealth of information about us. This includes our blood content, such as alcohol, vitamins, and drugs - all of which can be extracted from a single strand of hair. It is worth noting that a strand of hair can hold up to 3.5 ounces of weight. Although humans can create up to 7,000 different facial expressions, scientists have identified four basic expressions: anger, fear, surprise, and happiness. The remaining expressions are derived from these basic four. Additionally, genuine facial expressions tend to be symmetrical. Interestingly, babies have over 60 more bones in their bodies than adults. At birth, babies have roughly 270 bones. As they age, some of these bones fuse together, such as those in the spine and skull. The overlapping bones in a baby's skull allow for easier passage through the birth canal. The human eye has an estimated resolution of 500 megapixels, making it 72 times more precise than the rear camera of an iPhone 6. Furthermore, our eyes can differentiate between 10 million different colors. Despite this, why do we feel the need to have smartphone screens with a 16 million color range?

On average, an adult's skin weighs approximately 17.6 pounds or more, making up 16% of the body's total weight. Despite its weight, the skin is the human body's largest organ. An interesting fact about the skin is that each square inch of it is covered with over 600 sweat glands, which could be the reason why people sweat often. The human skeleton completely regenerates itself every 10 years, meaning that you always have a combination of old and new bones in your body. However, this does not mean that you should not take care of your current bones and assume that they will be replaced within a decade. Eating calcium-rich foods can help keep your bones strong. People tend to spend about 10% of their waking hours with their eyes closed. On average, a person blinks 15 times per minute, with women doing it twice as often as men. Additionally, women on birth control pills blink even more frequently, up to 32% more often. Babies, on the other hand, blink only two or fewer times per minute.

Did you know that your kidneys are super important? They filter your blood about 25 times a day and process almost 5 gallons of it! But did you know that only 1% of what they filter actually turns into pee? The rest gets sent back into your body. Crazy, right? And get this - your kidneys aren't even that big! They're about the size of your fist. But some animals have a third eyelid that helps protect their eyes and keep them clean. Humans used to have it too, but we don't really need it anymore. And did you know that your liver can actually grow back to its original size even if you remove up to 75% of it? That's why liver transplants can work so well. And finally, did you know that your heartbeat can actually sync up with the music you're listening to? It's true! So next time you're jamming out, pay attention to your heart.

Did you know that the stuff in your body that helps you digest food can actually start to digest your own organs? It's true! These things called enzymes team up with tiny microbes and start breaking down your body. Some of the atoms in your body are actually from stars that exploded billions of years ago. And it's not just humans - plants, animals, and even your car have bits of star stuff in them too! Your heart is also a super hardworking organ. It pumps about 53 million gallons of blood in your lifetime, which is enough to fill up 1.5 million barrels! That's because it beats around 115 thousand times a day and can reach up to 3 billion beats in your lifetime.
