Don't Ask My Social Media

What people are really missing out

Can we really find out about a person's true character by what he or she post on social media? Me personally, my number one slogan is never to follow me on social media, it might stress the follower out. Granted people use social media for various reasons from dating to business. However, can anyone gather a full understanding of an individual be just reviewing a social media page? This is a very debatable subject, but I beg to differ that there is a clear understand about anyone by just reviewing a few posts or tweets. I have been dismissed or misquoted more than enough times than I can remember and that was truly her loss, and at some times, I dodged a major bullet.

No matter how we cut the pie of life, there is no real measure compared to personal contact and close interaction to those we are trying to get to know more about. It is the main reason why we should only use SMS and DM messaging for short and quick notices and not long conversations. Tones and gestures and dismissed or even misunderstood. Body language can always be misinterpreted. This is why reading a post or someone's comment to a post could be easily taken the wrong way, and then the person posting, often ends up blocking the one who is considered a troll. Often people are confused for being combative or not easy to approach.

I hate hearing that employers search social media pages and a decision is often made from something one person may seem to judge as not fitting for the company. Sounds very close to a form of discrimination to me. Before the age of social media, I could remember working with the Assistant Manager of a retailer, located in the heart of downtown. She was the most professional and was always top tier about her operations at the store. To top it if, I knew that when opening with her, I was due for a quick trip to the Starbucks across the street which always meant to seeing local eye candy (I was not good during my ATL days). Nonetheless, we caught word that our Asst. Mgr. was use to a certain party atmosphere. Nothing life compromising or detrimental to anyone else, it was just her preference. Without the source, we would have not known the difference and was quite surprised when we heard the news. Now she was not terminated for her life style, but lets suppose that she was looking for that same Asst. Mgr. position today and her social media page displayed her lifestyle. Would her position be in jeopardy today? No, it shouldn't be because she knew how to separate the lifestyle from her profession. most people get it so twisted when a post from someone's social media page is out there, and now they are Queen of the Damned or Hell Boy.

Stop dismissing and writing people off from something that is seen on social media. In today's age, it is the number one killer from creating awesome business connections and at times, some potentially good relationships. Like I said, me personally, don't follow me on social media! This might cause some mental problems to the virgin eyes. I am sure that I can speak for others because not only what someone can see on social media for bad, can also be very misleading for when the appearance of good is displayed and can be the complete opposite.

So I say this with personal conviction. So many people have misunderstood me and all it took was a simple phone call or a meeting, just to see me in person. We often confuse people based on our unresolved past, with a combination of limited information from that person in the light.
