My first trip to LA.

It was such a fantastic feeling to finally take my shoes off and dip my feet into the ocean. I laid back and let the cool water rejuvenate me. The sky was a brilliant blue, with not a cloud in sight. What a journey it had been.

My first time on a flight to Los Angeles was both exhilarating and queer. The people were so caught on by my hair that I had to dodge their fingertips just to get through customs! I never knew my hair could be so attractive after being surrounded by beautiful blonde hair and blue-eyed girls most of my life.

Montana led me to a desiccated state and I longed to have my thirst quenched by like-minded people who had big dreams or at least thrilling stories to tell.

"Remember where you came from," my mother would remind me from the time I packed my bags until I boarded the flight. All I could think was, "Yeah right! I'm outta here!" But deep down I know my roots will never fade.

From the airport, the airplane was very resplendent. Much like my dad's pick up truck but more luxurious. It illuminated in the beating sun like a spaceship ready to take me wherever I wanted to go in the universe. I fervently walked through the corridors and boarded the flight. I can't believe my 21st birthday will be spent in LA is all I could think. I wondered if my roommate would like me too.

I had to squeeze past an overly large guy to get to the seat closest to the window. I later found out he had an annoying snoring problem. I guess that's what you get for buying coach tickets. But this was a win after a summer's worth of odd jobs I had to take on last year.

Next thing I knew the flight attendant came by with a cart full of glasses filled with champagne. I desperately wanted to try one but I left my fake I.D. at home thinking since my birthday is tomorrow I wouldn't need it. I wondered if I did have it would I have been kicked off the flight and shamed forever. I guess it was best that I didn't have it after all.

Instead, I diffidently asked for a bottle of water due to self-effacement, but the flight attendant was very adroit and gracious. There was no reason for shame or embarrassment until I looked at the price tag, "20 dollars?!" With a forced smile, I politely said no thank you and handed the water back. She continued on in a prim demeanor.

The plane finally landed and I was more than happy to walk the infamous walk of some of the most talented stars and influencers. I was so astonished! Suddenly I could see my roommate, Ashley, holding a sign with my name on it decked out in marker and glitter. I quickly approached her with a hug.

"You finally made it," she said in a pert manner.

"Yeah, I'm so happy," I placidly responded.

Her long braids swooshed back and forth as she stepped forward to grab my bags, "Come on, I'm taking you to the beach." We're going to get along just fine I think to myself.
