Christmas Love

Eternal bonds

By Sherry jacksonPublished 3 years ago 5 min read

My family decided to have our annual family reunion at grand dad and grandma in Montana on Christmas.

They lived on a ranch many miles from the local town.

I was hoping my cousin Jake was coming.

We grew up together and had such fun memories that I often laughed to myself about some of our crazy adventures.

My wish was granted as I saw him drive up in his sport’s car but to my surprise he wasn’t by himself.

I was so happy to see him and could see in his eyes he was glad to see me. We hugged and then he introduced me to his friend, Steve, a co worker.

He was tall slim and very handsome.

By the time the pizza had arrived the tents in the back yard were up and the kids bundled in coats and flannel pajamas were sitting around the fire pits with hot dogs cooking on sticks over it.

The men were hanging with the kids with “fluffy” grand dad’s white husky dog running around excited to have so many people in the house.

The woman all gathered in the kitchen finishing the cooking for the family dinner tomorrow.

The kids were having a wonderful time!

The guys were looking at the tv outside drinking beer and telling jokes.

I went upstairs to the bedroom and I looked down at them from the upstairs window.

.

.My cousin friend Steve fit right into the family. I couldn’t keep my eyes off of him and I liked the way his black straight hair hit fell casually to the side of his face and when he smiled his whole face would lit up.

There was something about him! A feeling of strong attraction like I had never felt filled my every senses.

As though he hear me thinking, he looked up at the window and his eyes captured mine and it was like he knew all the time I was watching him.

I stared back and something held us spell bound for what seemed like a very long time.

Then suddenly my aunt came into the room and told me to come down to have some gingerbread and tea with all the ladies. The spell was broken for when I looked back down at him, he was laughing and talking to my cousin.

The presence of him never left my mind. I could feel him and his warm vibration covered me and never leaving me.

The next day we went to the town’s Christmas craft festival.

The whole town was decked out in colorful lights with tables of various crafts centered around a huge decorated Christmas tree located in the center of the yard of the city hall.

There was no way anyone could not get into the Christmas spirit.

We all brought presents for each other. While enjoying the Christmas songs performed by the city’s chorus,

I suddenly felt some one was watching me so when I looked around at the crowd my eyes met Steve’s. . So I smiled at him and he smiled back.

It was Christmas Eve and when we returned from town the men all went out in the forest next to my grand parent’s ranch and cut down a tall perfectly triangle shaped tree.

Everyone cheered the men on as they with great effort dragged it inside.

After a delicious dinner and the smell of pine and cinnamon from the steaming hot cups of apple cider given to everyone,

Grandma brought out thousands of ornaments for everyone to decorate the tree.

I excitedly got on the ladder to put some bright red bulbs closer to the top of the tree when I lost my balance and fell but Steve catch me in his arms.

I looked up at him and his lips were close to mine and I thought he was going to kiss me and strangely I found myself wanting him to but he didn’t.

Everyone begin clapping laughing and my Grand dad began slapping him on on the back and telling him that was a fine catch.

A little shaken up I got my coat and went out side on the veranda. The moon was full and the night cold and still.

When Steve came out the door. I turned to him smiling abd exclaimed

Oh thank you for saving me between my laughter.

Anytime he replied and joked about being Superman. We both laughed but when we looked into each other eyes the laughter stopped.

Then magically it began to snow. The soft flakes began to fall on my face as we stared into each other’s eyes.

Then he put his arms around me and I knew I wasn’t alone in what I was feeling.

One of the twins of 8 years came bursting out the door screaming to everyone that it was snowing.

Everyone one came out side happy that we were going to have a white Xmas after all.

That night as I crawled into the soft bed with a inner feeling of contentment. I felt in my heart that finally my dream of finding the right person for me was actually becoming a reality.

The next morning everyone in their pajamas opened presents while white snow flakes drifted gracefully from the grey clouds to the blanketed white grounds outside the window.

There was a small gold box for me under the tree.and when I opened it it was a lovely necklace of a gold heart.

That is from me, Steve announced.

I looked at him in surprise and he walked over took it from me and put it around my neck.

There was a hush in the air and not a pin if fell could be heard.

I turned around after he fasten it around my neck and gave him a big hug!

Everyone cheered and everyone knew that we were together from that moment on.

After a delicious Christmas dinner Steve took my hand and we went for a ride in his car.

He stopped the car where their was a breath taking view of the mountains and snow covered trees.

Then he turned to me and kissed me passionately. He began to elaborate with a calm snd soft voice,

When I first saw you, I knew you were destined to be mine. Something from deep inside of me began to awaken. The more I saw you the more I wanted to see you and the more I was with you the more I wanted to be with you.

You completed me!

Will you be mine- I mean my love-

and share this journey with me.

Yes I said and before I could finish his lips tenderly found mine.

We had our wedding the next year in the forest on Christmas Day with trees all lit up with tiny white lights.

I wore a white hooded cape over my flowing white wedding gown, carrying Lovely red roses.

It began to snow just as we were exchanging our vows of love, like the universe was celebrating with us!

He held my hands in his and I happily knew in my heart that he was my destiny- my one and only eternal love.
