Beyond the Veil: Why Death Is Not the End.

A Reflection on Heaven, Eternity, and the Great Cloud of Witnesses.

Death has a way of shaking us to our core, forcing us to confront the temporary nature of this life. But for those in Christ, death is not the end—it is the doorway into a fuller, richer reality in the presence of God. As the fourth anniversary of my father’s passing approaches, I find myself reflecting on what happens when we leave this world, the mystery of seeing God, and the joy that awaits us in heaven.

Where Do We Go When We Die?

Scripture is clear that for believers, to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. The Apostle Paul wrote, "We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord." (2 Corinthians 5:8, KJV). Death is not a separation from life; rather, it is a transition into a greater reality.

On the day my father passed, I heard the celebration in heaven. The joy, the laughter, and the overwhelming sense of welcome were almost too much for my grief to bear. I knew, without a doubt, that he was home—not lost, not asleep, but alive in a way I could scarcely comprehend. Among the songs I heard the angels singing for him was Graves into Gardens. At the time, I had never heard the song before. But later, when I searched for it, I found out it was real. It has since become my favorite song.

My father didn’t know that song either—at least, not that I’m aware of. But perhaps he had once heard it on earth and loved it, or perhaps heaven gave it to him as a gift, a song that now connects us. It was as if God was leaving me a thread between heaven and earth, something to remind me that my father’s story is not over.

A Great Cloud of Witnesses.

Hebrews 12:1 speaks of a "great cloud of witnesses" who surround us: "Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us." This passage suggests that those who have gone before us in faith are not disconnected from us. They are aware, they are watching, and they are cheering us on as we continue our earthly journey.

I know this to be true because my father has been with me many times since his passing. He has sat with me in the silence of hospital rooms, kept me company in the taxis and ambulances taking me to and from medical treatments, and prayed over me in the long, lonely nights. His presence has been a comfort beyond words—the best company I could ask for. And now that I am strong, he is still here.

This is why I love the silence, because in the stillness, I can hear him. I can hear the Trinity. I can sense the great cloud of witnesses, those who walk with me in unseen ways. And in that silence, I can also discern when unwelcome company tries to intrude, when spirits that do not belong attempt to draw near.

It was in one such silences I wrote this song for my dad called MEMORIES (Click to Listen)

Seeing God—Now and After the Rapture.

One of the greatest promises of eternity is that we will see God. Jesus said, "Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God." (Matthew 5:8). But if we see Him immediately after death, what then is left to see after the rapture and the final resurrection?

This is a mystery I often ponder. When believers die, we enter God's presence, yet Scripture also speaks of a day when we will stand before Him in resurrected bodies (1 Corinthians 15:52). Could it be that what we see of God in death is just a glimpse, and after the final resurrection, we will see Him in an even fuller way? As Paul wrote, "For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known." (1 Corinthians 13:12)

The Joy of Heaven Overwhelms the Sorrow of Earth.

The day my father died, my heart was breaking. Yet, the joy in heaven was so strong that it almost crashed in on my sadness. The sorrow of death is real, but the joy of heaven is greater. Jesus told His disciples, "Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you." (John 14:1-2).

Heaven is not a place of disconnection or loss—it is a place of fullness, of divine celebration, of endless communion with God. What I heard that day was not just a welcome party for my father but a preview of the eternal joy awaiting us all.

Death Is a Beginning, Not an End.

In Christ, death is never the final chapter. Instead, it is the moment we step beyond the veil and into the reality we were always meant for. My father is not lost—he is more alive than ever. And one day, when my race is finished, I will join that great cloud of witnesses and see, not just my father, but the Lord in a way I cannot yet imagine.

Until then, I run my race with hope, knowing that beyond this life, there is only more life—glorious, eternal, and filled with the presence of God.

How to Have Eternal Life.

This hope of eternal life is not just for a select few—it is for anyone who puts their faith in Jesus Christ. The Bible makes it clear that salvation is a free gift, available to all who believe. "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household." (Acts 16:31, NIV).

Romans 10:9 says, "If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." This is the promise of God: salvation is not about earning your way into heaven but about trusting in Jesus, who has already made the way for us.

If you have never invited Jesus into your life, you can do so right now. Simply ask Him to reveal Himself to you. Call on His name, and He will come. He promises in Revelation 3:20, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me."

Jesus is not distant. He is near. And just as I have felt the presence of my father in times of hardship, even more so have I known the presence of Christ—the One who conquered death itself.

You can know Him, too. He is waiting, and He is ready to welcome you home—not just one day in heaven, but here and now, into a life of purpose, peace, and eternal joy.
