Beverly Naya Responds to Interviewer Who Asked Why She Always Acts One Type of Role
Beverly finally talks about typecasting

Typecasting is defined as "when an actor is repeatedly assigned to the same type of role, as a result of the appropriateness of their appearance or previous success in such roles." In other words, it is when an actor only acts one type of role or is known for only acting one type of role. This happens a lot in Nollywood. A person that a number of people accuse of acting only one type of role is actress, Beverly Naya. Beverly is often known as "the bitch of Nollywood" because her characters often happen to be either mean, seductive, or a mixture of both.

During her interview with Inkblot's Meet & Greet, Beverly Naya was asked by the interviewers how she feels about being typecast. Here's what Beverly Naya said.

Speaking about being typecast, Beverly Naya said:
To be honest, I've played a variety of roles. I've played a woman with a Nigerian accent, there was a film where I played a schizophrenic person so from my perspective, no (I've not been typecast). But unfortunately, a lot of these films just never got released. (The movie where I played the schizophrenic person), I shot that in Abeokuta and that character literally took so much out of me and I was really excited for that movie to come out because it was going to be a film that was going to show me in a completely different light. Unfortunately, it never got released. It can be really frustrating. It's really annoying because there are films that show versatility, show range, show a different accent, but if it's a low budget film or if the producer unfortunately doesn't have a strong enough strategy for the film, it just may never get released.
Like when The Wedding Party came out, it was a massive film. It's the second highest-grossing Nigerian film of all time. In so many ways even though I was established at the time, The Wedding Party was very influential. It did definitely do a lot of things for my career but then what came of that was a typecast thing and that whole idea that that's all I play. Now around the same time, there were other films that came out that were a lot smaller than this film but they just didn't do as well. There was one that came out that went straight to IrokoTV and unfortunately if it comes out and goes straight to a streaming platform, not many people get to see it. And in that film, I was a woman who was being physically abused by her husband. So I'm just not in control of these things. Then you have another example, Skinny Girl in Transit, huge on YouTube. So we have The Wedding Party, highest grossing, you now have this one on Youtube, of course you're going to automatically assume that that's all I play. Because these smaller films unfortunately do not do as well. So I'm not even try to toot my own horn, I know my range as an actor.
Beverly has in fact played a number of different characters in smaller movies like Across the Rising Sun, Surul'ere, Something Wicked, and more. It is unfortunate that the biggest projects she just so happens to appear to are the ones where she's the 'bitch' or the seductress.
