Beautiful Stranger

When a man meets a woman that would change his world

By Samantha Wilcox Published 2 years ago 3 min read

PART ONE

Standing outside the cafe, I realised I had run out of money and supplies. My life was a wreck and working four jobs wasn’t making it any better.

I looked to the heavens for a miracle but I knew no one would help me but myself, with a heavy sigh I made my way into the cafe.

“You’re late!” Mr Ralph screamed but I ignored it, he didn’t have many people come in or even working for him so no need to rush to work. I put on my apron and stood by the counter and began work as the cashier.

The day dragged on and it was getting to evening when I caught whiff of a delicate scent, it was more like roses laced in sugar. The most enchanting scent and I was tempted to look, the most angelic creature came forward with a worried expression on her face.

“One chocolate covered doughnut and a coffee to go please” she said in the most sugary tone. She was breath taking. Her hair, auburn and in long flowing waves, her eyes almost cat like and caramel brown, her delicate face was heart shaped almost angelic and unreal with her button nose and tiny lips with her petite but delicate looking body hidden under a baggy sweater and sweatpants.

I was captivated and stunned but she loooked like the soon ending day has just begun for her so I rushed to get her order. “Thank you” she shyly said and rushed off while I stared off at her, get a grip, I chanted to myself. But I continued with the rest of my day wondering who she was and if I’ll ever see her again, it’s a small town so we’d definitely meet again.

Finally, I get home and try to and some food and by make I mean warm some food I got from work. The heaters broken and I’m not sure how long I’ll have water. As I eat alone in my makeshift living room and realise how depressing and lonely my home is.

It was supposed to be this way, I didn’t get a degree in finance to live horribly. My appetite is gone now, I need to leave this place for a while and not think of my horrible existence. I shrug in my coat and lock the door.

It’s cold outside but nothing I can’t handle. I walk past a restaurant and my tummy grumbles, I haven’t had a proper meal in ages. Life sucks and it sucks even more when you’re alone. My parents died when I was twelve and I had no other siblings.

The streets were a bit crowded but quiet, a bit too rowdy for me. I notice a Park and decide to sit there. I sit on a bench and watch the the stars. Im too lost in thought to realise someone has taken a seat beside me.

“Beautiful night isn’t it?” the sweet voice said, startling me “sorry I didn’t mean to scare you” she said with a rise in her tone. It was her, the Angel I met hours ago. I stare in shock and she gives me a shy smile, fate has brought her to me.

She looked a bit stressed but still as beautiful as ever. “Sorry I’m not supposed to speak to strangers” she chuckled making my heart beat. After thinking of a response, I dryly say “we don’t have to be if that’s ok with you?” making her look up at me.

“Guess we should get to know each other then” she smiled and said. “I feel we’ve met before” she mumbles making my breath hitch, I didn’t want her to see me as some lowly cashier “really? Maybe I have one of those faces”, she’s stares for a while and doesn’t argue.

“I’m Bethany by the way” being in her hand for us to shake. I take her hand “I’m …….” and a call interrupts us, it’s her phone. She looks at her phone in panic and begins to gather her bag “I’m so sorry, I had to go. Lovely meeting you” and runs off.

I didn’t even get to say my name….
