Adventures of Kadence

Part 1

By Erica BurchfieldPublished 5 years ago 15 min read

It was a beautiful summer morning. As the Cul de sac slept on, the red orange streams of sunlight made last night’s dew steam off the blades of the freshly mown lawns. Everything was quiet, almost too quiet, when all of a sudden a blood curdling scream caused birds resting lazily in a nearby tree to scatter in panicked spats. “Kadence!” the sound of her name in such a frantic tone ripped Kadence from her peaceful dreams. Jumping from her bed, she tried desperately to locate the cause of the scream.

“It’s already 7:45! We are going to be late for the first day of school!”

Kadence’s younger sister, Anastacia, stood at the foot of Kadence’s bed tapping her foot impatiently. Having already been up for 2 hours, Anastacia had already showered, dressed, and eaten while waiting on Kadence to wake up. Realizing that her sister had been the cause of so much noise, Kadence slumped back down onto her bed.

“Anastacia, you really are an anal bitch sometimes.”

“Well, if you don’t hurry we are going to be late, and it’s my first day of high school!!”

“It isn’t like it’s going anywhere, and besides, you’ll get over it soon enough.”

With that anastacia marched out of her sister’s room in a huff. Kadence lingered on the soft warm bed for just a moment then grabbed her towel and headed for the en suite shower. She couldn’t get the dream she had been having off of her mind. “This was the 3rd time this week.” She said as she turned the water on.

It always started out the same. She would be walking alone through a long corridor. The air was chilly and Kadence could feel the goose bumps rising on her pale skin. There were bedroom doors every 3 feet with erotic sounds seeping through the keyholes. Before she could figure out where she was, a shadow immersed from the darkness. “Follow me” he said in a low sultry tone. She shivered as he grabbed her hand and led her through one of the bedroom doors. The room was decorated in blues and greens and only contained a nightstand and a large bed centered on one wall. A small lamp on the nightstand was the only source of light in the room. A sense of dread filled her being as he started rubbing her shoulders and kissing her collarbone from behind. She tensed as he started to feel his way under her shirt. She smacked his hand away.

What do you think you’re doing?! I’m not that kind of girl.”

“You will be.” He uttered in the deep mysterious voice.

It was then that she bolted from his grasp toward the door. He grabbed her arm before she could reach the doorknob and threw her on the bed. As she sank face down into the feather mattress, a feeling of fear came over her. She started to scream, but no sound was coming out. She could feel the shadow coming closer when suddenly she heard the door bust in. She quickly slid to the floor and crawled under the bed while no one was watching. She couldn’t see anything but 2 pair of men’s shoes. She saw one pair run toward the other and heard the sounds of the fist fight that was surely occurring above her. She jumped when the lamp fell from the night stand and shattered by her arm. Finally, after what seemed like hours, with one last punch her assailant fell to the ground. Kadence slowly emerged from her hiding place only to find her hero leaving the room. “Wait!” she called desperately as she ran to catch up with him. “I didn’t get a chance to thank you for saving me.” She gasped as she caught up with the mysterious stranger. She felt herself being encircled in the warm strong embrace of his arms. All of her fears instantly melted away as she felt herself being passionately kissed in the dark. Lifting her arms to encircle the mystery man’s neck, she pressed into him. His hands gently stroked her lower back, making her knees feel weak. She could feel his tongue on her lips and excitement began to build between her legs. He pulled away from her just long enough to catch his breath and Kadence squinted as she tried to make out his face in the darkened corridor. “Who are you?” she whispered as he pulled her closer to him. The smell of his cologne intoxicated her and made it hard for her to think straight. He kissed her again and just as he was about to say his name she woke up.

20 minutes later both sisters were walking toward Kadence’s car, Anastacia at a brisk trot and Kadence strolling slowly, taking in the beauty around them.

“Hurry up Kadence, we are already late, and I don’t want detention on our first day”

Kadence rolled her eyes as she unlocked the brand new shimmering metallic blue Camaro convertible and slid into the white leather seat. “Divorce sure does have its perks” she thought as the turned the key into the ignition. Ever since the divorce, her father was constantly trying to make it up to her for not being there. Kadence and Anastacia’s mother had kicked him out 3 years ago when she found that there was more pleasure than business happening on his frequent trips to Maui.

As they pulled into the freshly painted senior parking spot, Anastacia practically sprung from the car and dashed toward the school. Kadence just laughed to herself as she gingerly opened the door and grabbed her purse. The school stood tall and foreboding, with newly cut sod and shrubberies scattered about the landscape. She strolled toward the immaculate building with relief. “Finally, my last year. Not long now and I’ll finally be able to go live with Dad.”

The day went just like any other first day of school. Kadence strolled from class to class, running into friends and acquaintances she hadn’t seen since the last day of school the semester before. She was heading toward the cafeteria for her lunch period when out of nowhere she was tackled to the ground.

“What the fuck!!” She yelled as she tried to regain what little composure she could.

“I’m so sorry,” the deep soft voice stirred something in her. She looked up into his eyes.

“Now those are eyes you could loose yourself in forever” she thought to herself as she stared into his emerald eyes. He was asking

“Are you okay?” Suddenly she realized she had been staring at him for what seemed like an eternity. “Uh, yeah, I’m fine.” She quickly got to her feet and started collecting her books. He bent to help her,

“I’m Jeff, you’re Kadence right?”

“How did you know my name?”

” Well, you’re the one of the prettiest girls in school, and you’re a star softball player, I’m not sure there’s anyone who doesn’t know your name.” Kadence blushed at the compliments. They finished cleaning up her books and as she was about to start toward the cafeteria again when he touched her arm. The sensation sent chills of excitement down her neck. She turned to look at him, and as she became lost in his gaze again she realized he was talking to her. “Hey, are you doing anything tonight?” “What? Oh, I’m not sure, what did you have in mind?” Kadence didn’t usually make spur of the moment plans, especially with guys she had just met.

“Well, there’s a party tonight at Blake Ryan’s house, and I thought maybe you would like to go.” She thought for a moment, unsure of how she should answer. She knew about those parties that Blake threw. All of the girls knew about them. Blake and the other football players would get together and trash his house while his parents were out of town. Things usually got pretty wild and Kadence shivered at some of the rumors she had heard about how the players got drunk and took advantage of unsuspecting girls.

“I think I may pass” she said hesitantly. “I’m not really into those kinds of parties.””Oh,” Jeff sounded so disappointed. Kadence hated the crestfallen look on his face, but she hated herself more for being a coward and listening to other’s gossip, something she wasn’t usually into.

“Well,” he said softly breaking into her thoughts,” I’ll be there if you change your mind. You know, I would never let anything happen to you.” He stepped closer and encircled his hand in hers. The pleading look in his eyes melted her innermost being and she longed to tell him she would go, but before she could open her mouth, the bell rang.

“I’ll see you around” He said as he released her and turned to leave. “Yeah, see ya.” Kadence went to her next class and tried to pay attention, but the rest of the day was a total blur as her thoughts were constantly on his sultry voice and deep emerald eyes. Something seemed familiar about them but intriguing at the same time. She jumped as the last bell of the day rang and snapped her from her daydreams.

Softball practice was grueling as usual. The whole team worked hard and it showed. They hadn’t been state champs for the past four years by just sitting around. Even though they worked hard and were the best team around, their coach pushed them even further. After 3 hours of pitching and batting practice, Coach Robbins decided they were looking a little sluggish and ordered the team to run extra laps around the field. Kadence sighed as she shrugged at Brianna her best friend. “I guess it could be worse.” She said as they filed in to start running. The scent of the newly trimmed field and the dust kicked up by the runners filled Kadence’s lungs. It was all Kadence could do to finish the 50 laps they were commanded to run. Just as she was picking up her gear and loading her bag, she felt someone’s eyes on her back. She turned around to see the coach standing behind her. “And just where do you think you’re running off to?” Coach Robbins questioned in that domineering tone that made Kadence wince. “I was packing my gear to go home coach; I’m already late for dinner.” “I guess you should have thought about that when you became team captain. It’s your job to stay and help collect softballs and put away the team’s gear.” Kadence sighed as she put her bag down and jogged toward the field. “She needs a man…” Kadence thought. “Maybe if she got laid every once in a while, she wouldn’t have to be so hateful.” She looked up to see Brianna beside her grabbing extra balls. It didn’t surprise her. Whenever she had needed anyone, Brianna was always there waiting to listen and make things better. They became especially close after her parents divorced and Kadence was forced to stay with her mom. “I should have known you would still be out here.” Brianna gave a knowing nod back toward the stands where Coach Robbins was doing paperwork. “She really needs to get laid.” Both girls giggled as they threw the few remaining balls in the bucket and headed for the dugout. Finally, Kadence grabbed her bag and left for her car. As she got closer, she noticed there was something sticking to her windshield. Looking around and seeing no one, she quickened her pace to see what it was. Reaching her car, out of breath, Kadence realized it was a note under her wiper blade. She dropped her bag and grabbed the note, curious as to who would leave her a note on her car instead of in her locker.

Kadence,

I know you said you weren’t coming to the party, but I really wish you would change your mind. I want to get to know you better and I hope you feel the same about me. Maybe we could go out for dinner sometime?

Jeff

Kadence got into the car with a huge smile on her face. She had never felt like this about a guy before. The butterflies in her stomach and the giggle rising in her throat made her come to her senses. “Snap out of it Kadence,” she said as she drove home, “You don’t even know this guy, don’t get your hopes up.” Kadence had never really had very much luck with guys. She was always the friend, never the girlfriend. The only time guys called her was to see if she wanted to round out a game of football. It wasn’t that she was unattractive, that couldn’t be further from the truth. Kadence was about 5’5” with long auburn hair and sapphire eyes. She had curves, but in all the right places. Her pale skin only enhanced the bright sparkle of her eyes and when her hair was styled just so, she looked almost immortal.

It was after dark when Kadence pulled into her driveway. Her mind was still on the note that Jeff had left on her windshield, so she didn’t notice her mother standing impatiently at the door as she walked up the sidewalk.

“Where have you been?!” Her mother shrieked at the top of her lungs making the neighbor’s dog wail in protest. “You know you are to come home right after practice! I knew I should never have trusted you to stay after school. You are just like your father, always sneaking around behind my back! ” This infuriated Kadence. “ How dare you speak to me that way! I did nothing wrong, for your information I had to stay after to help clean up and then I came straight home. As for Dad, you are the one who drove him away, with your ridiculous demands and hateful temper. He never stepped out on you until your own jealousy destroyed what you had with him.”

Her tirade had stopped her mother in her tracks. Kadence could tell she had gone a little too far, but it was the truth and there was no way she could take it back now. Kadence’s mother glared at her, in a voice almost too low to hear she said, “Go to your room now. You are grounded. No phone calls, no softball, no anything. I don’t want to see your face out of that room. You’ll be lucky if I even let you out for school.”

Kadence ran to her room and slammed the door. “How dare she treat me this way?!” Kadence raged. “She has no right to do this to me. I didn’t wrong. I wish Dad were here. He wouldn’t have let her treat me this way.” She sat on her bed for a while when she noticed the note Jeff had written her sticking out of her softball bag. Suddenly a thought occurred to her. “If she doesn’t want to see my face, then she doesn’t have to. I’ll just go to the party with Jeff and stay over at Brianna’s house afterward.”

Kadence went to take a quick shower and get dressed for the party. She had her bags packed for Brianna’s house and was deciding on an outfit to wear. She finally decided on black Tripp bondage pants with light blue accents and a black and blue layered spaghetti strap shirt. The pants fit her just below her waist, sitting perfectly on her round hips while her shirt emphasized her bust and showed off the belly button ring she had secretly acquired while her parents were busy with the divorce proceedings. She donned her favorite pair of converse sneakers and went to style her hair. She decided on a Princess Leia type style so she wouldn’t have to worry about her hair getting tangled up while she was partying.

Finally finished getting ready, Kadence slipped out of her window with her stuff and into her car. She eased the door closed, and slipped the car into neutral to back down the driveway. She knew better than to start the engine until she was far enough away from the house that the noise from under the hood would seem to be coming from somewhere else in the suburban neighborhood. On her way, she dug out her cell phone and called Bri. “Hey it’s me, we’re going to a party tonight, and I’ll be there in about 5 minutes.” Before Bri had a chance to answer, Kadence hung up the phone and blasted the stereo.

-----------------------------------------------

Bri was standing outside when Kadence pulled up. Getting into the car, she saw Kadence’s bags and assumed she would be staying over tonight. It wasn’t that she minded Kadence being there, in fact, she always loved having her best friend around. They were more like sisters than friends anyway. What bothered her was that she knew what had happened at home for Kadence to run out like that. Ever since her dad left, Kadence had been the receiving end of most of her mother’s rants.

They pulled up to the address for the party. It was obvious they were at the right place. Solo cups littered almost every square inch of the lawn and there were several couples making out on the porch. The music blasting from inside was so deafening that it threatened to drown out the speakers of Kadence’s car. They parked a little ways off to keep people from scratching the paint. The girls walked into the house looking for familiar faces, when they saw their friend Zach in the game room hustling someone out of their allowance at the pool table. Zach looked up from his game of pool and stared into Kadence’s eyes. He had been enraptured by them since he met her almost ten years ago. Sure they had only been in second grade then, but he knew immediately that she was the one he was destined to spend his life with. They became fast friends and the three of them spent almost every waking hour together. It was their last year together, and Zach was determined to finally tell Kadence how he felt. He had been working up the courage for sometime, and he figured tonight was as good a night as any to let her know. Zach and Bri had talked about this for weeks, with Bri always encouraging the shy Zach to tell Kadence, and Zach always finding a reason why he shouldn’t. He put down his cue and asked the girls if they had got anything to drink yet. Both heads shaking no, he led them to the kitchen to score some libation.

No sooner had they gotten into the kitchen for their own solo cups, than Jeff appeared. “Kadence! I guess you got my note. I’m so glad you came!” Jeff grabbed Kadence’s arm and drug her to the living room area to dance before she could say anything to Zach or Bri.

Zach sighed as Bri put her arm around his shoulder. “Its okay, the party is just starting so you’ll be able to tell her in a little while. C’mon, let’s go get something to drink.” Zach gave in and let Bri lead the way into the crowded kitchen for more of the fruity smelling stuff that had filled most of the littered solo cups.

After Kadence and Jeff had danced for a while, Jeff motioned for her to go outside with him. When they got far enough away from the party that they could hear themselves think, they found a spot on the curb to sit and talk. Kadence listened as Jeff talked on and on about various teenage topics; what classes he was taking and which sports he was going to go out for that year. Kadence could barely pay attention because she was totally engrossed in those deep emerald eyes. She must have paid too little attention because the next thing she knew he was staring at her with the same silent intensity. Almost instantly they both looked down at their hands. Kadence had never felt this way before. Sure she had dated other guys, but this seemed different. He seemed so familiar to her, but she couldn’t place him. As she was thinking, she felt his hand graze over hers and ever so delicately pull it into his. Kadence’s heart was beating wildly and the butterflies in her stomach were doing back flips. She felt the color rush to her cheeks as Jeff leaned in for their first kiss. His lips bent to meet hers, and she could feel the electric sparks as their lips touched. That first kiss left Kadence feeling dizzy and out of breath. As she watched Jeff caress her hand gently in his, the urge to kiss him again was growing.
