A good deed that I will never forget.
By Alexander Cook

During the Pandemic I was desperate to find a job...For my family. I was willing to work full time on a commission job. No hourly pay just commission. I was gone most of the day. I remember the latest time I came home from work was nearly 1 in the morning. I missed the last bus home and had no choice but to walk home.
I was on my way to Toronto in the car. I had very little cash on me. All I had was $1.05. I packed 2 litres of water and loads of food for me to eat. Since I was working on a commission job I forced myself to keep going until I went to 150 doors. I didn't get a single client still. I was tired and sore. My boss had to leave because he had to pick up other employees and give them a drive. What he didn't know is that my bag was in there. He left while I was dealing with a client. However, by the time I was about to stop him so I can grab my bag he left.
I looked at the time and it was 1.p.m. He wasn't going to come back until we were done our shift. Which was 9 p.m. Everyone had their own money and was going to buy their lunch. They didn't realize that I didn't have my bag or that much money on me. I tried asking them if they can call him back or buy me lunch but they said to me to get my own lunch with my money. Our "Break" was in 3 hours and we went to Subway/Gas Station for a bathroom break and lunch.
While they did their break. I decided to buy a caffeinated beverage. I got worried I wouldn't be able to afford it. So I went to the corner and counted to see if I had enough money to buy a drink because I couldn't buy food when I was about to buy my drink there were this lady and a girl who was behind me in line. She told me what did I want to order. I felt guilty. I just wanted a drink but I could tell I needed to eat as well. All I said was chips and a drink. I will never forget what she did for me. When I asked her why would she help me when she didn't even know me. She chuckled and said I remember I would always count my change for stuff. I smiled and went out to enjoy chips and caffeinated beverages. I felt relieved. A little energized.
It was 4 pm and we had 5 more hours and 4 huge towns to go to. It wasn't easy. I had to be sure I spared chips for later on. It wasn't easy. I felt lightheaded but I knew I was going to make it eventually. When it was 5 minutes to 9 I said screw it. I sat down and waited for everyone to finish their job. I wasn't making a sale. Everyone was rude and disrespectful. I gave up that day. I took out the bag of chips and drink. I ate the rest of it. I still felt low energy after finishing it. I felt relieved that I was going home. My boss showed up around 9:30 and I didn't come back to Ottawa until 11:30 pm.
I will never forget that day when she helped me through the day. If she ever reads this. I want to say thank you so much. It helped me through the day and made me feel better. I won't forget you.
Best regards Alexander.
