A Dream Too Far
A character falls in love with someone they only see in their dreams and must grapple with the reality of never being able to be with them in waking life.

Sophie had always been a dreamer. She loved to imagine different scenarios and create vivid stories in her head. But one particular dream had been haunting her for months. In it, she met a man named Jack. He was tall, with piercing blue eyes and a smile that made her heart skip a beat. They would spend hours talking, laughing and enjoying each other's company. It felt so real, so intense, that Sophie couldn't shake off the feeling that Jack was more than just a figment of her imagination.
Night after night, she would go to bed hoping to see him again. And every morning, she woke up with a heavy heart, knowing that Jack was nothing but a dream. She tried to move on, to focus on her work and her friends, but her mind kept going back to him. She felt like she was living in two different worlds, one where she was happy and fulfilled, and the other where she was alone and longing for something she couldn't have.
One day, Sophie decided to seek help. She went to see a therapist, hoping to find some answers. The therapist listened to her story and nodded sympathetically. "It's not uncommon for people to fall in love with their dreams," she said. "But you have to understand that Jack is not real. He's a projection of your subconscious, a manifestation of your desires and fears."
Sophie felt a lump in her throat. She knew that the therapist was right, but it didn't make the pain go away. She left the office feeling more confused than ever. As she walked down the street, lost in thought, she bumped into someone. It was a man with tousled brown hair and a kind smile. Sophie felt a jolt of recognition. It was Jack.
For a moment, she couldn't believe her eyes. Was this real or just another dream? Jack seemed to sense her confusion. "Sophie, right?" he said. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to startle you. I've seen you around here before, and I couldn't help but notice how lost you looked."
Sophie felt her cheeks flush. She couldn't believe that Jack was real, that he was standing right in front of her. They started talking, and Sophie felt a connection that was even stronger than in her dreams. Jack was witty, charming and kind. He listened to her with genuine interest, and he seemed to understand her on a level that no one else ever had.
As they parted ways, Sophie felt a mix of emotions. She was overjoyed to have met Jack, but she also knew that their time together was limited. She couldn't expect him to feel the same way she did, and she couldn't keep living in a dream world. She had to face reality and move on.
Days turned into weeks, and Sophie and Jack started seeing each other more often. They went on long walks, had coffee dates, and talked for hours on end. Sophie felt like she was living in a fairy tale, but she also knew that it couldn't last forever. She had to tell Jack the truth.
One evening, as they sat on a bench by the river, Sophie took a deep breath and spoke. "Jack, there's something I need to tell you. I've been having these dreams about you for months, and I've fallen in love with you. I know it sounds crazy, but it's true. I don't expect you to feel the same way, but I had to tell you."
Jack looked at her with a mix of surprise and tenderness. "Sophie, I don't think it's crazy at all. I've been feeling the same way about you. I thought I was going crazy, but now I realize that we were meant to find each other. You're not just a dream to me, you're the love of my life."
Sophie felt tears streaming down her face. She couldn't believe that her wildest dreams had come true. She and Jack kissed under the moonlight, and for the first time in a long time, Sophie felt like she was exactly where she was meant to be.
From that moment on, Sophie and Jack were inseparable. They knew that they had a lot of obstacles to overcome, but they also knew that their love was stronger than anything else. They had proven that dreams can come true, that love can transcend reality, and that sometimes, the things we long for the most are closer than we think.
