A Dream I Didn't Know I Wanted

But now it's all I want

I want to tell a story.

I want others to fall in love with the characters I hold so dearly. I want my world to become a real place in the hearts of many, like Harry Potter or Star Wars or, let’s face it, anything Cassandra Clare writes. I want my books to shine and I want to share my love of it with everyone. I want the world to hear it. Is it really all that amazing? Well, you should see for yourself if this isekai/fantasy is something you’d like. However, let me tell you how much it drives me first.

It drives me absolutely crazy.

There were weeks where I couldn’t sleep because I had to get the next scene down on paper. There were days I didn’t eat because I needed to write just one more chapter. And one more chapter. Just one more chapter. My husband would call out to me if I needed anything, because I’d forget otherwise. Every second of the day would be consumed thinking, writing, plotting, planning, drawing, discussing, editing, telling, growing this idea. This story doesn’t just drive me… it possesses me like a demon.

It started before Covid-19.

I was at a job I wasn’t enjoying, earning a wage that barely sustained me, and I wasn’t happy. At all. I had accepted this fate until Krystar came at me like a ton of bricks. All of a sudden, all my free time went into writing. I left my main job, as I had others to tide me over, and focused on writing Krystar: First Fragment. It only took me four months to complete the first draft. I thought that was pretty fast, considering I wasn’t much of a writer.

“What do you mean you weren’t much of a writer?” you might ask.

I mean, I wasn’t interested in ever writing a book, I didn’t write poetry, I don’t even own a diary, and I would put off any writing assignment I ever got, even if it was for work. I really mean “I wasn’t much of a writer”. I even once turned in an essay about procrastination. It was a month late. So, where in the world did Krystar come from? Trust me, I don’t know either, but I knew I had to write it. I just had to.

And it opened my eyes.

Suddenly, Krystar wasn’t just an idea I had when I was twelve, it was a whole new world. It didn’t just have magic, it had a magic system no one’s ever seen before. It messed with the “Chosen One” trope in a unique way. Interludes interrupted the story every few chapters, and they seemed to follow their own separate storyline.

The planet Thera even had its own distinctive culture and if the main character hadn’t been from Earth, it would have been a lot more confusing to read. Because their years are shorter on Thera, they’re born one years old. The words gay and lesbian don’t exist because their society grew up based on preferences instead of gender norms. Everything was just so different and lovely and beautiful. Do you have any idea how many “water words” people use here? Such expressions like “tides of war” and “harboring ill will” don’t exist because there are no oceans or seas on this other planet. And don’t let me “dredge up” anything too horrifying by letting all the other subtle nuances “wash over you” right now. So get onboard!

I want to take you on an adventure.

Just like I had while I was writing it. My goal is for you to experience the world I created through the eyes of the main character, an Earthling with no earthly idea of what’s going on. It is both frightening and fascinating. And I want so much to share this with you.

Join me, and Deshi, on a fantasy adventure. See first hand what it would be like to be magically transported to another world. Will he wield a sword? An axe? Will he be able to cast magic? Will he regret wishing he was in another world? What would it really be like? I’m hoping you find yourself in Deshi, wishing to be somewhere else. Maybe your father left too, like his. Maybe you just roll with the punches, like him. But not anymore. We all have to adult some time. Isn’t it the worst? Adulting…

So, what can you do to support my passion?

Plenty. I have a book (you could buy), an ebook version (which is temporarily free), I’m working on a webcomic version (which is completely free), I have a Patreon (if you’re feeling generous and just want to throw something at me), you could share this story (also free), you could check out my social medias and share those (free), and perhaps the most meaningful thing you could do is read my story and tell me everything you liked and disliked about it. Knowing that I reached you… is truly the only thing I desire.

My passion is Krystar, and I need to get it out there.

Please help support me. It would mean the world.

Recently published my first book Krystar First Fragment, but interested in improving my writing skills through Vocal. I'm also working on a comic of Krystar and plan on doing my own artwork for pictures. Curious on where I'll go from here.
