Shreveport, Louisiana has officially been stamped G-Unit ville. Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson has officially cemented his deal with the northwest city in the state. By meeting with the governor and other officials, 50 has been able to bring his brainchild of an entertainment venue to that region. With some fanfare and photographs, the “21 Questions” rap superstar has laid out a plan to bring 6,000 jobs, $18 billion in revenue, and $300,000,000 in wages to Shreveport.

This is what the Prophet Honorable Elijah Muhammad had in mind when he said, “Get off the plantation, build your own nation.” Fifty has done that in a mighty way. He’s going to challenge Los Angeles and Georgia in terms of film production and provide a place for creatives. He also wants to make space for concerts and other functions.

What this means is that the genre of rap has given birth to minds that have looked beyond just beats and rhymes. By snapping up land in the south, Mr. Jackson is destined for greatness. With his patented businessman air, he has carved out a mount to build his own fortune in the process. This selfish, productive way of viewing the issue is going to be a boon to his own net worth. Isn’t that what he came into the game to do anyway?

Who wants to sit around all broke, busted, and disgusted wishing away their life when they can take action and improve themselves. When people look down on Fifty, it usually has something to do with his overwhelming sense of business and capitalist leanings. This is a grave error. To say that 50 Cent is a monster or some kind of an abomination for him to turn a coin is monstrous in itself.

The guy never claimed to have wings. He’s been through the system. He’s been shot multiple times. This we all know. But he is also a boss who knows his way around microphones as well as cameras. He is a consummate entrepreneur who is setting an example for not just those in his industry but anyone who has risen from whatever playing field to seek placement in the big leagues.

In a world where there is constant scandal, betrayal, and gossip, 50 has stood on business throughout his entire career. He wants to bring a sense of honor and truth to his businesses. In his meeting with Governor Landry, he solidified his role as the CEO of the entertainment staple that will be constructed in the months to come. For him to be a prime mover with motive power, The Kid Fifty is destined to be one of the largest names in entertainment…again.

It’s always been business over nonsense. To keep with the ideal that even a black man can make it in America, this move is a rather significant one. It shows how much one man can do to improve his own bank account. That’s what people hate the most. Fifty is greedy and that’s a good thing. People hurl slurs and darts at him because they don’t have his status, his money.

This Age of Envy in which we live permeates throughout the culture. Is it so hard to congratulate a man who has done so much for himself? Shouldn’t people laud and applaud his acumen and tenacity?

No, people wish to badmouth and send incendiary grenades his way just because he’s productive. His creativity has brought him this far and he shows no signs of stopping. If he goes at the rate he is on, then there should be ample time to further discuss his plans for the future.

He is poised to expand on a place that few thought would be possible. Shreveport, Louisiana is not the first thing you think of when it comes to film production and entertainment venues, much less multi-billion-dollar streams of revenue. Fifty, yet, did his homework and put $124 million down to secure the land. This is a triumph though some will of course grumble about it.

They’ll say stick to your Power franchise and let others come to that area. FIfty said no. He thought about the ways the industry has changed especially with the likes of Tyler Perry and Katt Williams who snapped up land for film production. Even Boosie Badazz who is from Baton Rouge, Louisiana has eighty-eight acres of land to speak of in all of this.

These black men, through entertainment, have crafted or plan to make money for themselves primarily and also provide avenues for others to collect revenue. It is only the subjective hater who would cast aspersions toward such a towering figure as Fifty.

He has not shown any signs of slowing amidst lawsuits, bankruptcies, or other stumbling blocks. May he continue on his G-Unit grind.
