You'll love these tasty wraps

In the summer of 2003, people within the American city of Chicago went missing. A lot of people suddenly vanished, seemingly out of thin air, never to be seen again. It wasn't like they just evaporated before anyone's eyes, they just went to work one morning and never returned home. It was when these people were all alone, perhaps walking down a dark alleyway, that some stranger struck and abducted them. For the longest time this was an eerie mystery. Rumours of a secret serial killer, began circulating around the city, as everyone believed it was another creep like one of those monsters you see in all those true crime documentaries. The truth would be far more disturbing than even that.

Detective Francis was assigned to the case, alongside his partner, Detective Shaw, these two men were experienced veterans in the police force. If anyone was going to crack this mysterious case, it was these two, no doubt about it. So they began digging. The first action they took, was to investigate the scenes where every victim had gone missing. They were always last seen in a very busy and commercial area of the city, one where a lot of shops and street vendors did business. Both Detectives went around each shop and stall, asking if any of the shopkeepers or employees had seen anything suspicious. There was a young girl who worked in a men's clothing store, she said she saw a man running away through crowds of people in fear. When she described this man, he matched the appearance of one of the missing people the Detectives were searching for. Several other store workers and even local police officers remember seeing other people run frantically around this area, but they presumed these people were either late for work or the bus, or something like that. Of course this was a very busy city centre, a lot of people rushed around hailing taxis and racing to the subway to get home or to work on time. So this lead seemed quite flimsy. Yet, they still asked around. Some said they saw a man with a machete chase some people, but when police looked at CCTV later that night, there was no footage to be found of this happening. As if the killer already knew where all the local surveillance cameras were. The machete wielder always wore a pig mask over his face, so nobody could identify him. Only that he was built like a guerilla and had tanned arms. After one long day of questioning witnesses with next to no real leads, Detective Francis and Shaw entered a nearby kebab house named 'Wraps To Die For' to find something to eat. The owner was middle eastern, but it was hard to where exactly he came from, only that he had a strong accent and jolly demeanour.

"Hello my friends, hello there, welcome, welcome!" The owner smiled widely, welcoming them in with open arms.

"You need something to eat, eh?" He asked.

"Sure thing." Detective Francis grinned and ordered a BBQ pulled pork wrap with salad.

"Eh, you two look like sophisticated business men, like those wall street guys in New York, no? What with your fancy smart suits and all that."

"We're Detectives." Detective Shaw added.

"Detectives, eh?" The owner chuckled, "what's the matter?"

"People have gone missing around these parts, that's all." Detective Francis replied dismissively, as their shift was pretty much over and they had both gotten tired of asking around.

"Can't say I know a thing about that..." The owner shrugged, "I'll go make your food now, aye? Detectives like you need a big break, I know..."

"How would you know?" Detective Shaw coughed, eyeing the owner suspiciously.

"Is hard work." He said, "that I know too well, big men like us need big breaks, no?"

"Yeah..." Detective Francis chuckled, "we'll be right here, go get us our wraps." He winked.

"No problem, Detective... I make them extra spicy, bigger and special for you two. No extra charge!" He laughed, before venturing off into the kitchen, he returned within the next minute.

"See, fast food!" The owner winked, handing them their bags, "unlike that crappy McRoonies place down the road, eh? What with them snot nosed teen boys behind the counter... To think that place is such a big name brand, hiring little shi-"

"Yeah I get it!" Detective Shaw butted in. The owner looked upset.

"Give it a break, Shaw..." Detective Francis frowned, "we appreciate the service." He smiled.

"Eh... No problem, Detectives!" The owner forced a smile, "come back anytime."

Outside the kebab place, Detective Francis was frustrated.

"Why you gotta be such an ass, Shaw?"

"That guy seemed off, I don't know. You see that machete tucked behind his apron. It had blood on it."

"He's a chef, Shaw..." Detective Francis frowned, "of course he's going to have knives on him, don't mean he's our killer."

"Whatever..." Detective Shaw grumbled like a five year old, before opening the tinfoil and eating the wrap inside. It didn't taste like pulled pork, nor did it taste like donor meat, chicken or turkey. This was something else. Detective Francis was about to take a bite himself, but Detective Shaw stopped him, ceasing the wrap in his hand.

"Get your own!"

"No, the meat tastes... Weird."

"It's probably just the seasoning!"

"What if it isn't!" Shaw roared, "maybe he's our guy and we're eating-"

"Human?!" Francis laughed, before biting into his wrap, he also thought the meat tasted strange, but it was unusual and sour in a delicious way he hadn't expected.

"No! Don't eat it!" Shaw gasped.

"Look-" Francis said with his mouth full, then he swallowed what was left in his throat, "if you want to take your wrap back to the station and get it tested, waste police time and get yelled at by the chief, then be my guest. But I'm starving and this is my dinner, all right!"

"Fine, eat it then... You cannibal!" Shaw sneered.

"You'll see..." Francis slurped up his lettuce, "I'm right, you're wrong! It's nothing but pork."

"Let's just go already." Shaw grunted, before climbing inside the black car and drove back to the station.

It turned out; Detective Shaw was correct! The meat within the kebab was human flesh, fried in a deep fryer, just like crispy chicken. You should have seen the look of horror and disgust on the face of Detective Francis. It was damn near comical, his eyes bulged wide, like a cartoon and his jaw dropped suddenly. Then he spun and ran into the nearest bathroom, puking his guts up into the closest toilet bowl he could find. Detective Shaw was equally horrified, yet part of him felt somewhat satisfied to see his cocky partner suffer after ignoring his warning about the wraps. He joined him in the bathroom, just to gloat.

"Ah, didn't I tell you about the weird meat?" Detective Shaw chuckled, leaning against the closed cubicle that Detective Francis was puking inside of.

"Shut up, you little prick!" Detective Francis growled, before slamming open the cubicle door, "let's get this cannibal!" He wiped away the remaining vomit spilled under his lips and spat out the rest, onto the blue tiled floor.

"Ew!" Detective Shaw flinched, "you almost got that on my shoe."

"I missed..." Detective Francis grinned, before leaving the bathroom with his partner following behind him.

The two Detectives and a whole squad of police cars, raced to towards Wraps To Die For, the owner had seen them all and climbed inside his delivery van. Soon an epic police chase across the city of Chicago took place! Detective Francis, still enraged after eating that awful wrap; chased after the cannibal. However, Detective Shaw and a few other police men stopped to secure the kebab shop and questioned the employees that worked there. It turned out the whole restaurant was a one man show, the owner ran the place entirely on his own and when the Detective entered the kitchen, he saw why. Several human bodies were either skinned, gutted or chopped up like cows or pigs. Body bags were frozen in the chiller, perfectly preserved people were ready to be served! Upon closer inspection; Detective Shaw recognised the deceased, they were the same people who went missing! He had found them, but this was a horrible, horrid, horrific ending to the case. Then, just to make matters worse, upon the counter in the kitchen was the rubber, blood stained pig mask, with a gory machete right next to it. There was no shadow of a doubt, the owner of Wraps To Die For, was in fact the pig faced killer they had been looking for.

Detective Francis gained on the delivery van, a whole squad of police cars were racing alongside him. It was like a scene straight out of an action packed video game, the type of game where you play as a criminal or police officer, where car chases were all too common and often ended in chaos and carnage. Well, that's exactly how this thrilling race across Chicago ended! Suddenly the van spun out of control, the tyres screeched loudly, as the vehicle rock and rolled all over the damn place. Civilians screamed, diving out of the van's path! It flipped seven times, the vehicle was nothing but a crinkled wreck of broken metal and shattered glass by the time it stopped rolling. Detective Francis pulled over sharply, bringing his car to a sudden halt! The police cruisers behind him struggled to stop, some even had minor crashes, but they were all well and alive, exiting with pistols and shotguns at the ready.

"Get out of the vehicle!" They ordered loudly, but the van's doors remained closed. Soon they all approached with the utmost caution and it was Detective Francis himself who discovered the disappointing truth, the killer had been killed. The collision had ended the evil man's life. Some would call his death a justice, others not so much. He'd never answer for his crimes against humanity, but at least the sicko was dead. Human meat was never served in Chicago ever again. At least not to our knowledge.
