One of the best classic horror films and my personal favorite is Wes Craven's Scream. The original movie was made 1996 during the time people were familiar with many other slasher films. Not only does this film have a good plot it shares some of the most memorable characters. Every Halloween I watch this movie just for more chills every time I see it. The main character Sydney Prescott, played by Neve Campbell; is being terrorized by a masked serial killer killing her friends one by one. Wes Craven gives up one of his best opening scenes with Actor Drew Berrymore playing Casey Becker. The opening scene that caused everyone to be afraid of answering their phones for a long time. Personally I was always terrified of being home alone and making popcorn after watching this film for the first time. As people start to be murdered we are introduced to the masked killer himself called Ghost Face. We are also introduced to the characters and the protagonist Sydney Prescott. Wes Craven also gave us the idea that Sydney has a dark past and is making an effort to live as a normal teen girl. Her and her friends are completely aware a serial killer is targeting them as their friend they knew was murdered. The police and news reporters are questioning if it has something to do with Sydney even though the audience can tell she is distressed from the killer.

For the scary parts and jump scares I get watching this film is the people being killed or dying. The fake blood in some of the scenes made it look real and the actors did a wonderful job at making us think what a real life person would do. I think the Ghost face character was brilliant for having every other character spooked and nervous to ask who was next to be killed. The ghost face disguise also has the audience always ask who is it and what is their motive? The plot tells you that the main character is just as frightened and trying to figure out why this was happening to her. Sydney’s character is very different from her friends and people that were murdered. When she was confronted with the ghost face killer himself, Sydney makes an effort to show ghost face that she was not afraid of him and wasn't going down without a fight as she tries her best to escape the masked killer. Wes Craven added humor that still doesn't stop us from being scared of this slasher movie. The humorous characters I enjoyed watching such as officer Dwight Dewy, and Randy meeks. These characters are devoted to trying to figure out the masked killer by adding people on their suspect list and are just as surprised when confronted by a ghost face. It's the conflict that has everyone on edge on who the audience suspects. The best thrilling scenes that make the slasher more exciting are the phone calls. The phone calls the killer makes are usually towards his next victim or to torment the main character Sydney. The twist is brilliant and unexpected as it should be and the cast did an amazing job being discreet or confused. Not only did this movie make my childhood scarier, but the trilogy still goes on as they are in the process of coming out with a scream 5. The rest of the movies get better each time as Sydney registers new killers and accomplices. In my opinion this is why this slasher classic movie is the best to watch.
