When Horror Comes Alive

The Haunting of Halloween

By Anthony ScottPublished about a year ago 2 min read

As they waited in line for the haunted hayride, Emily turned to her friends and whispered, "I don't know if this was such a good idea."

Rachel, dressed as a sparkly vampire, rolled her eyes. "Come on, Em, it's just for fun! It's not like we're going to actually encounter any real ghosts."

Matt, a self-proclaimed horror expert, snorted. "You never know. This place has a reputation for being seriously haunted."

Their group consisted of five friends - Emily and Rachel, Matt and his boyfriend Alex, and Jack, who had insisted on dressing as a creepy clown.

The line inched forward, and they soon found themselves climbing aboard a rickety wagon. As they settled in, the driver, a gruff old man with a sinister grin, warned, "Hold on tight, kids. This ride's gonna be a wild one."

The wagon lurched forward, and they began their journey through the dark, twisting woods. The air was thick with fog, and the sounds of howling wolves and creaking trees sent shivers down their spines.

Suddenly, the wagon jerked to a stop. The driver's voice came from the darkness, "Welcome to Dead Man's Hill."

A figure emerged from the shadows - a ghostly woman in a long, white gown. Emily screamed as the woman reached out and touched her face.

But to their surprise, the ghost whispered, "Run."

The group exchanged confused glances. Matt asked, "What do you mean?"

The ghost's eyes locked onto something behind them. "They're coming. Get out of here, now."

Without hesitation, the friends leapt from the wagon and sprinted into the darkness. They stumbled upon an old cabin, where they barricaded themselves inside.

As they caught their breath, Jack whispered, "What just happened?"

Rachel shook her head. "I don't know, but I think we just became part of a real-life horror movie."

Matt's eyes gleamed. "This is amazing!"

Alex elbowed him. "Not the time, Matt."

Emily peered out the window. "Whatever is out there, it's coming for us."

The group held their breath as the cabin creaked and groaned, the sound of footsteps closing in.

And then, everything went black.

When the lights flickered back on, they found themselves alone, the cabin empty and silent.

As they stumbled back to their cars, Rachel turned to the group and asked, "Was that real?"

Matt grinned mischievously. "Does it matter?"
