What I'm Hoping For With "American Horror Story: Double Feature"

My Personal Predictions

By Chloe MedeirosPublished 4 years ago 3 min read

It goes without saying the excitement for the long awaited “American Horror Story: Double Feature” is through the roof. I know I’m among those excited fans. I’m very intrigued with the resent teasers, the idea of two world colliding (monsters of the deep in one story, then aliens and UFOs being in the other story), and the official trailer itself and the likely story that will be told. Everything looks promising.

Now I write my own fiction and know very well a writer shouldn’t be expected to take dictation from fans. So what I want to about here is what I think we might see in the first story: “Red Tides”.

The basic premise gathered from the official trailer is a writer, his pregnant wife, and their small child, have moved into a town where there seems to be some kind of gravitational pull for the those eager for success.

Success, that comes at a price.

I’m thinking those who’ve lived in this town a long time either knows about everything going on to cause this rush of success and go along with doing whatever it takes to not disturb the flow of things. Or they don’t know, but any inclination to find out why this occurrence is happening is clouded over for someone of the residents, encouraging them to just look the other way. Also knowing on a subconscious level they can’t ruin this amazing this happening in this town.

The creatures in the sea are probably propelled by something supernatural, tied to the people having their desires met. Maybe it somehow helps these creatures eat or survive, or it helps them just continue to thrive because everyone is too focused on their own success to care.

Or, it’s some kind of government cover up concept. Where the government knows what’s happening but will do nothing because it is bringing success to some people. This would then lead into the story of the aliens in “Death Valley”, if that is these two stories will eventually tie in together, the way the rest of the series is tied together with each story within each season.

Chances are, I’m completely wrong. Chances are this first tale will dive into something much different, and maybe much darker than I could ever think of.

What I really hope, which is what I hope any work of fiction can do, is do something NO ONE is expecting to see. Do something so out of the box for the fans and new audiences that when they come to the end of the season, or even the end of the first episode, the viewer won’t know what to do with themselves and won’t want to wait a whole week for the next episode, but will anyway because they’re hooked.

There has been some speculation that the stories told this season will be unlike anything ever done on this show as far as the comfort level for those who will be watching. Lily Rabe has indicated she has never played a role like this on the show and was a challenge for her. Anyone familiar with her work on “American Horror Story” will know with all of the memorable roles she has played, saying this was harder than all the others is a big statement. Of course, what scares her might not be what scares us. So we won’t know what Lily Rabe meant until we finally get to watch the new season.

Whatever the case may be, with this great case, with this setting, we will be getting something totally worth watching.
