It seemed to be a normal afternoon for Gina, a 16yr old high school junior, she left her school early as she did every Wednesday to go out for a movie and lunch with her twin brother Sterling and their mother Rachael. They started this tradition almost 2yrs ago when her older Amelia went missing and was presumed dead, after her sisters abrupt disappearance the tension within her house rose to an all time high. Her father, Kevin started to lash out at Rachael blaming her for what happened to Amelia causing a rift in their marriage. Kevin would spend a lot of time in his office getting high on cocaine. 3 months ago Rachael kicked Kevin out after learning about his drug abuse and filed for a divorce, oddly enough the twins started to feel as if things were going to get better which it did. But only to have it crumble apart again.
On Gina’s way home she stopped to get gas and two sodas, one for her and the other for her brother. As she gets closer to her house, she lowers her music as she hears all different kinds of sirens. Turning onto her road, she sees police, fire trucks and ambulances blocking her driveway and almost all of her neighbors crowded together in front of her lawn. Gina wasn’t so sure what was going on and couldn’t think straight as to what could possibly be happening,
She parked her car in her neighbors driveway and slowly started walking towards her house. If you saw her, you would never think twice that she or anyone she knew lived in that house. Her pace was slow, her eyes glazed over as she sees the police tape outlining her property. She gently pushes her way through the crowd of neighbors, for some reason no one tries to stop her or say anything, they just watch her walk past them, under the yellow tape, past all the officers and paramedics with their backs turned and into her house.
As she stepped into her house, she saw officers taking photos of broken vases, glass…and blood on the floorboard.. As she turns her head around the room all she could see was the blood, the puddles and splatters of blood. Finally Officer Daniels sees a young girl in a zombie like state just staring at all the commotion, he stopped what he was doing and walked over to Gina, directly in front of her but she didn’t even seem to see him there. He spoke
“Miss, do you live here?”
She didn’t acknowledge him so Officer Daniels waved his left hand in front of her face which caught her attention. Her eyes met his but she still seemed to not be there mentally at the moment.
“Are you Gina Imnoz?”
This time Gina slightly nodded, her eyes wandering and eventually they land directly behind Officer Daniels, who takes a few steps to his right knowing he was potentially blocking the bullet holes in the wall. Extending his arm out towards the front door,
“Gina, would you please come down town to my office?”
She finally spoke…
“Why? Where is everyone?!”
“Miss, I’ll explain it all at my office I think it’s best if we speak there.” Officer Daniels said sternly.
“Where is my mom?”
Before Officer Daniels could open his mouth she asked him again.
“Where is my mom? …. Where is Sterling? Where are they?! WHATS GOING ON?!”
“Miss.Imnoz, please. I’ll explain it all to you…”
“OH MY GOD, THEYRE DEAD ARENT THEY? LET ME SEE THEM! WHAT HAPPENED?”
Officer Daniels wanted to be authoritative but saw and could hear the pain and fear in her voice.
“….At least come with me outside, let’s just get out the house.”
As he started making his way out the house, Gina slowly walked behind him, looking over her shoulder at the wall and floor before fully stepping outside. She shielded her eyes from the flashing lights, she looked around and saw what she originally had not when she first walked inside the house.
3 Firetrucks
8 Police Vehicles
2 K-9 Units
4 Ambulances
“Why are there four?” (As she pointed to the ambulances.)
Officer Daniels motioned to the side of the house where no one could see or them and Gina would be less distracted if possible.
“Can you tell me why you were coming home so early?”
“Every Wednesday, Sterling and I leave school early to come home and go to lunch and a movie with my mom. Usually we take the same car to school but he had to bring his car to the mechanics and I had a midterm, so he left like 30 minutes before me.”
“How’d you get here today?”
“Mr car, it’s parked in the neighbors driveway….”
“How’d your brother expect to get home from the mechanics?”
“….my mom, her job is a few minutes from there. Can you please just tell me if they’re okay?”
Officer Daniels took a deep breath and tried to look into her eyes but she quickly looked to the ground.
“…Do you know who would want to hurt your mother, brother…or yourself?”
Gina just stared at him before saying,
“My sister died a few years ago… I can’t lose anyone else, please stop asking me questions and just answer mine!”
He sighs,
“….Your mother and brother have both been brutally attacked, and they are on their war to the E.R ….”
He stops talking as she notices Gina is back in her zombie like state, her eyes start to glaze over.
“I NEEED A MEDIC!!”
He tries to reach for Gina, as her body turns to jello in front of him.
