Night. Darkness. Emptiness. So beautiful so tragic but all ruined thanks to the boy who sat across from me. He is none blinking, sunk in eyes boring into me. His toothy grin making chills run up and down my spine. That grin, those eyes, I clenched my fist. Anger boiled under the surface. Making me grit my teeth trying to keep from lashing out. Unfortunately, my control did not last long.

“You got a problem or something, Freak.” I said no longer able to keep silent. It was bad enough that the Ferris wheel was out of commission but also, I was trap in a small suffocating space with this freak who I cannot even stand. My beautiful serenity and bliss disturbed by a boy whose name no one knew and who always stared at me with those none blinking eyes. I hated him not because I knew him but because of his stare that always made me feel as if he knew everything. Even my darkest secret. He did not speak which gave the situation an eerie feel. In the dark cage we found ourselves in his skin had a blueish tint to it. The light from the fair below did nothing to make the boy across from me seem more human.

“Remain calm,” The operator said through a megaphone below. “We’ll have everything up and running very soon. So, stay seated and don’t panic.” I rolled my eyes as I looked down at the little group forming at the base of the Ferris wheel.

“Don’t panic. Sure, that’s easy for you to say.”

“You scared?” I jumped. The boy was now next me and close.

“The heck.” I pressed my back against the glass behind me and our cage rocked. I did not even hear him move. “Why are you over here?”

“Just wanted to get comfortable.” That grin again. His voice was raspy and made me feel disgusted to my core.

“Move. Back.”

"Mm. I don’t feel like it.” He chuckled to himself at his words.

“Move NO-”

“Shhh.” He put a finger to my lips, and it was then that I saw the glint in his eyes. Those dark abysses that held no sanity. No humanity just animalistic blood lust. I was trap in a hanging cage with an animal who was hungry for blood. My blood. A cool whisper of a breeze cooled by skin. Though I felt icy cold on the inside I was sweating nothing but fear.

“Who are you?” He smiled at my words. He then caressed my cheek. Thank animal smile glistening in the night. He then stood grabbed my wrist and made me face the night sky. Fear grabbed my throat making me forever silent. He pressed against my back and put his lips close to my ear.

“Who am I?” He moved my hair back from my face. “Who am I? I’m vengeance.”

“Vengeance?”

“Vengeance for the girl you had ‘jump’ off a bridge. The girl you pushed and smiled as she fell. I am Vengeance for Anna Loise.” That name. That name that haunted my ever thought and the deed that set me free. Free to prey among the weak and show them the blissful serenity of eternal night. His hands were chilling over mine as he squeezed them tight. “And do not think I don’t know about the others. The others you showed the night to.”

“I just wanted to show them the beauty of the eternal night.” I confessed as I stared toward the horizon. The night sky reached beyond what I could see. I knew what was going to happen. I was not going to wake in the morning I was finally be in the eternal night. It was finally my time.

“I know my Nightingale. I know.” He cooed. He kissed my cheek softly. “Now fly my little Nightingale. Fly.” With one well place shove from Vengeance I flew. I flew into the night. Such a wonder. Such a peace. I did not even feel it when I hit the ground. I could not feel anything. I stood over my mangled body and watched as they put a sheet over it.

“It’s so strange.” The operator told police.

“What is?”

“She was on the Ferris wheel alone. But she was talking as if someone were there. Before she died, she said something about the eternal night and Vengeance.”

“It’s a sad thing. But Anna Louise has always been a troubled girl. Since her twin brother committed suicide.”

Anna Louise? But she’s dead.”

She is now.”

"Adam.” I turned to see Vengeance.

“Hello sister.” My world then went forever black.
