This is a small part of what I'm writing. If it sees positive reviews I will post the full edited book once it's finished.

‘Wait up!” I turn around to see Kenn running towards me.

“Kenn I don’t understand how’re you still alive?” I don’t know how anyone could have survived what had happened to him.

“I don’t know. Maybe I have an immunity to their powers.” He said this with that smirk on his face.

“Whatever made you survive or however you did we need to leave!” As I say to him we hear the footsteps. They shake the whole ground and it sends a shiver down my spine. But suddenly I heard Adalynn shouting from a distance.

“They know where we are!” How did they possibly find us? I could’ve sworn we got rid of all technology that was near us.

“Kenn? Are you alright to run?” I ask him as I see him rubbing his left leg.

“Yes, I believe that I can make it but I don’t know how long I have before this leg gives out.”

“That’s good enough,” I say to him as I hurried him to his feet and we begin to run.

“This way.” I see a sewage drain and I know that it is our lucky escape. All three of us begin to crawl through. “It can’t follow us here.” Adalynn confidently says to us.

We proceeded for another few miles and we decided that this was a good place to set up camp because we could not have been followed. Still, we decided that we should take shifts taking watch while the others sleep. I decided to take the first shift. I am unconfident about this situation we’re in. What we got ourselves into, this couldn’t have been what we intended. The whole world is rotting and the blame is on us. I don’t believe I will make it out of this. What we have built have taken the world hostage and we have not one clue what to do. We have unintentionally let everyone we know down and all hope is lost. Adalynn isn’t asleep yet. She comes over to me and places her hand on my shoulder.

“The earth weighs 1.317 × 10^25 pounds which is a lot of weight for one to carry on his shoulder.” She knew that I was blaming myself for what happened and she was trying to help. It’s weird before all of this happened I was just some unordinary kid trying to just get her to notice me. But now, now I’m looking right into her sparkling brown eyes that are still filled with confidence. She has such a pure and optimistic soul, she sees the good in everything and that’s one of the reasons that I idolize her so much.

“We’re going to find a way out of this. We’re the smartest kids on this planet. We got ourselves into this and I know that we will get ourselves out of it.” I know she meant this with the best intentions but I still don’t believe her.

“But how? How is it that you know of these things?”

“Well,” she starts. “I’m the smartest woman on the planet. That alone should make what I say the most credible.” I guess in some way she wasn’t wrong, she’s never been wrong in her life. But I don’t know, I still believe she’s wrong about this.

“I just can’t believe you.” She looks at me and leans in and kisses me.

“If you won’t believe my words, believe my lips.” Those lips were soft and perfect; as if they weren’t even real. I don’t know what has come over me but suddenly I feel that maybe there could be a way out of all of this.

“Why don’t you get some rest? We have to move tomorrow and you don’t want to still be tired when it's your turn to watch.” She nodded at me with a smile on her face, held my hand and gazed into my eyes, I could’ve sworn it was for a full eternity but in reality, it was only a few seconds, and then she spoke,

“Don’t worry.” After that, she went to lay down.

“CRASH!” “CRASH!” “CRASH!” The ground rumbling above us woke us all up. “Oh no, they’re near!” I whisper to my friends. I must have fallen asleep during my watch. Kenn listens to them briefly and he whispers back to us.

“I don’t think that they know where we are, I believe that they’re just walking. If we stay silent we are still safe.” I hoped he was right but after around 10 minutes the rumbling was gone and it turned out that he was right. None of us had a clock so we didn’t know what time it was.

“Since we’re all awake, I propose that we keep moving on,” Adalynn says that still sounding tired. The first thing I can think about though his Kenn's leg.

“How’s your leg doing?” I asked Kenn.

“It’s feeling a lot better, there must’ve been no breaks, just bruising.” His response was just what I could’ve wanted.

“Great, we’re going to keep moving.” Still, we continue down this dark tunnel and soon it completely fades black as charcoal. My two friends who were walking right beside me weren’t even visible to me. We decided to have a conversation to get our minds off of our fear.

“So, when we get out of this what is the first thing that you’re going to do?’ Kenn nervously asks us.

Adalynn being quick to respond, “I think that I’m going to go to a library and check out a good book.” Kenn and I both laugh at this response because even in the worst of things she’s still got her mind on books. It’s almost unreal.

“Well, what’re you guys going to do?” She asks quickly trying to flip the spotlight.

“I am going to travel the world and do everything I’ve always been wanting to do. If there’s anything this has taught it’s that life is short and I’m not going to waste any more experiences.” Kenn said that and I knew what I would do.

“I’m going to see my family.” Even though I couldn’t see them I still felt Kenn and Adalynn staring at me.

“If they’re still alive.” I finish.

“They most definitely are,” Adalynn reassures me and grabs my hand.

“Do you guys see that?” Kenn takes off saying.

“What’re you running to?” I shout. And I can faintly hear his response.

“Don’t you see it? Don’t you see the light?” and until he said something I didn’t see it but he’s right; there it is. Suddenly Adalynn goes running towards it too.

“Come on!” She yells letting go of my left hand. And quick enough I found that I was running as well.

I reach the light, where Kenn and Adalynn were already standing. It was the end of the tunnel. We were all excited to be out of the tunnel but there was something on my mind. I turn to Kenn and ask him a question.

“How were you sprinting so fast when you just hurt your leg yesterday?”

“I guess I just had a quick recovery,” he responded with his signature smirk. All I could think was how surreal but my attention was soon focused on what seemed to be a train.

“Guys! Look!” I point towards it.

“Yeah there’s a train but none of us know how to operate one and also it would be really loud and surely draw them here.” Kenn denounces me.

“There could be supplies on the train that we need! We should search it!” I announce.

“I agree!” Adalynn chimes in. I knew she would have my back. Once we reach the train we decided to split up. I took the first 3 cars of the train to check. I only found some things in my part of the train including a tape recorder with spares tapes, a utility knife, a compass, a pocket watch, and a blue backpack. I decide to put everything in the backpack and go meet up with the other two. I reach Kenn who was exploring the dining car and he’s quick to jump to me and show off what he found.

“Look at all of this food! From the looks of it, it’s all fresh.” He says that then instantly asks me, “Why do you think all of this was just left here? Where are the people?” I took a look around and I thought the same thing.

We went towards the passenger cars where Adalynn was and we saw her standing there staring, and in this moment, I know this is the first time I saw her with no hope in her eyes. We reach her and we see it too. All the seats, filled with bodies. No one had been spared. Men, women, children, they were all there. It was like a scene right out of a horror movie. Adalynn being the most caring person I know dreadfully asks, “Do you think they suffered?” My stomach turns at the thought of it but I know that I have to stay strong.

“No, I think it was fast and all at once. Painless even…” she looks at me teary-eyed.

“I hope so.” Kenn not even looking affected starting walking towards them.

“What are you doing?” I ask him.

“I’m going to search them and see if there’s anything useful on them that we could use.” Adalynn looks absolutely horrified at the thought.

“How could you!” She spurts at him.

“We need to do what we can to survive otherwise this is going to be us.” As much as I hate the thought of it he’s right and I join in and search them with them. We take one of their suitcases and empty it out and put jackets and spare clothing we found.

We leave the train and feel the ground rumbling. They’re coming.

“Quick! That farm over there! Let’s go hide in it! We run towards the farm. I run towards the barn. It was an old barn, the white paint on it it looked tan from being so old and dirty and it was chipping. The wood was also week, this barn must’ve been built in the 50s. It had two stories. I ran to the top of it and hid behind a few stacks of hay. Adalynn decided to hide in the lower part of the barn and I didn’t even know where Kenn was. The rumbling was getting closer and I could tell Adalynn was scared so I called her name and she instantly ran up the stairs but right as she got up here the doors swung open. She got to where I was and we put a bundle of hay on top of us. They come in, the noise was the scariest part. The sound these things made, it was indescribable. I heard them slowly creeping up the stairs. The stairs began to creak, slowly getting closer. Why does all of this have to feel like something out of a horror movie? Suddenly there was a loud boom that seemed like it came from miles away, they instantly ran towards the noise. The rumbling left us completely and went the opposite direction of the loud noise. Once it was completely gone we heard repetitive yelling

“Anthony! Adalynn!” Right away I realized it was Kenn and Adalynn and I quickly rushed outside.

“Did you hear that loud boom?” He asked.

“Yeah, we did what do you think it was?’ Adalynn responded.

“I don’t know but it saved my life. I was this close to being face-to-face with one.”

“Guys, I think we should head towards that direction.” both of them turn towards me with blank looks on their faces.

“Are you crazy!” Kenn yells at me.

“Guys, whatever made that noise made those things run. Maybe it could help us stop them.” I hope they agree with me but as Adalynn went to speak, Kenn cut her off.

“You’re right!” We look towards him.

“I am?” “He Is?” Adalynn and I question the unrealness of his statement.

“Yes, you are. We need all the help we can get and whatever scared them away could benefit us.” He says. We all agreed to head towards it.
