Understanding the Horror Aesthetic of Uzumaki: Spiral Into Horror
Uzumaki: Spiral Into Horror Episode 2

I can confidently say Uzumaki: Spiral into Horror will be one of the most horrifying anime I will ever watch. I am currently concerned with my mental health because I am enjoying this show way too much.
If you haven't read my history with Uzumaki. Please check out my thoughts on the first episode.
What is Uzumaki? Uzumaki 'Spiral' is a Japanese horror manga series written and illustrated by Junji Ito. The series tells the story of the citizens of Kurouzu-cho, a fictional town plagued by a supernatural curse involving spirals. Spiral patterns in the clouds, everyday objects, hair, insects, and skin. With spirals appearing in disturbing places, can anyone escape their horrible draw?

Rating:

I was hoping they would keep up the quality and episode 2 did not disappoint I would say episode 2 was more horrifying than the first.
What makes Uzumaki scary? It isn't a typical horror story. There isn't a serial killer in a mask or a ghost haunting a house. Uzumaki took a simple shape we see in everyday life and turned it into the most disturbing storyline. I mentioned in episode 1 that after reading Uzumaki I started to notice spirals everywhere and yet again I am noticing more and more spirals in everyday life.

I am having a hard time finding pictures to add to this blog because episode 2 took disturbing to a new level. I wanted to take a minute to appreciate the creators of this show. The art style is unlike anything I have ever seen. You can tell a team of dedicated and hardworking animators worked for countless hours to bring this manga to life. I have a hard time with some of the scenes, I can't imagine animating them for years.
They have also cut up the manga to keep your attention and create both a fast-paced and creepy storyline, yet didn't cut out any of the original manga which made it so scary in the first place. You could hold up the manga next to the anime and see them copy it frame by frame. Lots of anime come from manga but I have never seen an anime follow the manga as closely as Uzumaki.
The creators of the anime truly are bringing the manga to life.
