Halloween Tradition
Every holiday has its traditions and Halloween is just as much as a holiday as Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s in my book. Witches conjure up the dead and pagans call out to Samhain for whatever reason... if you believe in that sort of thing. Your average normal non-religious American like myself sees Halloween as an excuse to eat desserts, candy and party or watch all of your favorite scary thriller movies.
Activity Norm on Halloween
For the month of October kids around the world anticipate going trick or treating and counting who got the most candy. The adults such as myself spend time prepping for the kiddos by spending money on buckets of candy at Walmart or CVS. Then we splash the outside of our homes with a few scary decorations and VOILA! Then it is time to relax and indulge on some television scares. If this year you are up for it and are “kid-free” ya might even take some orange and black jello shots and go to a costume party. However, after I turned twenty-five and joined the corporate world my Halloweens have been a collection of Netflix and chills. What else can you do when you have work the following morning and don’t want to have to call out or have a hangover? If only there were some magic pill after heavy drinking you could pop to absorb all of the alcohol remaining in your system to avoid such a thing.
Halloween Themed Baked Goods
I like to celebrate by doing something light like making my favorite Halloween themed desserts and hanging out with some like minded individuals. Some of my favorite desserts include white chocolate covered strawberries, sweet potato pie, triple chocolate layer cake and chocolate chip cookies. I have seen the coolest recipes on Pinterest to make each Halloween themed. Slow down though cookie monster! I don’t consume all of this by myself nor in one setting. Sharing is caring and moderation is everything.
Thriller Slasher Flicks
Now let’s get into the slashing. Slasher or… in other words serial killer-based films are categorized in the genre of "thriller." The entire purpose of the film is to find out why someone is killing and who will survive the tragedy. They are typically filled with blood and gore, filling the heads of the American citizens with the many different ways to kill. My go to top fifteen slasher movies are; Urban Legend, House of Wax, Stay Alive, Wrong Turn, Die, The Collector, Freddy vs Jason, Halloween, Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Prom Night, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Jeepers Creepers, Terrifier and Candyman.
Horror Flicks
Hold on a sec…If you want some horror over thriller I have some suggestions too to have you pulling that throw blanket over your head in fear. Do not watch these if you are an easy scare. My level of scare is a seven with a ten being the highest and after watching these five movies certain images stained my brain. I have not been the same. Your mind is a powerful tool. Feed it facts intertwined with observation and gain wisdom. Feed it horror and fiction and your mind can play sick tricks on you. Don’t say I didn’t warn you. They go in the following order; The Exorcism of Emily Rose, The Amityville Horror, The Poltergeist, The Exorcist and The Conjuring.
Truth to The Horror
Did you know The Exorcism of Emily Rose, The Amityville Horror, The Poltergeist, The Exorcist and The Conjuring are all based on true events? Some paranormal, weird demon voices, black eyes, and disturbing images equal horror in my eyes. Somehow knowing now that not only are these flicks based on true events but strange things and death came to the cast or crew after filming makes it more horrifying. Critics say that for the Exorcism of Emily Rose crew members reported paranormal activity and loud music starting to play abruptly. The Amityville Horror cast say that they would suddenly wake up at the time of the mass murder. The Poltergeist actress Dominique Dunne's ex-boyfriend decided to suddenly show up and murder her with no memory of such and Heather O'rourke the main character suddenly went into septic shock all after filming. The Exorcist set burned down and three crew members died. The Conjuring actors would have mysterious bruises appear. Is that a coincidence or what? If not then smack my rear and call me a donkey.
