In an ancient and eerie school, there was a terrifying legend whispered among the students. It was said that in the restroom at the end of the teaching building, a ghost would haunt the place every midnight.
John was a freshman at this school. At first, he didn't take the legend seriously, thinking it was just a joke that the seniors played on the new students to scare them. However, as the days went by, he noticed that whenever the restroom was mentioned, his classmates' eyes would reveal genuine fear.
One evening, John stayed late in the classroom to review his lessons. The entire teaching building was so quiet that it was almost frightening, with only the sound of his flipping pages and the occasional wind breaking the silence. When he glanced at his watch and saw that it was almost midnight, he suddenly felt an urgent need to use the restroom.
Despite feeling a bit uneasy, his physiological needs forced him to head towards the legendary restroom. The corridor was dimly lit and flickering, as if the lights could go out at any moment. When he finally reached the restroom door, a chill ran down his spine.
He took a deep breath and walked in. The restroom was eerily quiet, with only the sound of water droplets falling from the faucet—tick, tick—echoing in the empty space. John quickly chose a stall, and after taking care of his needs, he was about to leave when he heard a faint sound of crying. It seemed to be coming from the stall at the far end. John's heart raced instantly. He told himself it was just the wind or some other natural noise. But as he listened carefully, the crying grew clearer, filled with sorrow and despair.
Fear began to grip John, but his curiosity also drove him to find out what was going on. He took trembling steps, inching closer to the stall. With each step, he could feel his breathing becoming more and more rapid.
When he finally stood outside the stall, the crying stopped abruptly. John hesitated for a moment, then mustered up the courage to gently push the door open. The door slowly creaked open to reveal an empty stall, with only a puddle of water on the floor, as if someone had been crying there just moments ago.
John's scalp tingled, and he turned to flee from the terrifying place. But when he looked back, he saw a vague figure standing at the entrance. The figure was dressed in a white robe, with hair like a black waterfall cascading down, almost completely covering a face as pale as paper. He could faintly see her eyes—dark, hollow sockets with no pupils, as if filled with black pus, exuding a nauseating stench. Her lips were blue and cracked, slightly parted as if to express endless agony.
She floated slowly towards John, and with each movement, the air around her seemed to freeze, becoming piercingly cold. She stretched out her bony hands, with nails as sharp as hooks, and her joints had an eerie bluish-black hue as she reached for John's neck. John's eyes widened in terror, and he was unable to move.
"Why did you come here?" a sinister voice came from the figure, as if it were a roar from the depths of hell, filled with deep resentment and endless pain.
John wanted to respond, but it felt as if something had blocked his throat, preventing him from making a sound.
Suddenly, the figure lunged forward, her hands tightly gripping John's neck with a strength that seemed to want to snap it. John struggled desperately, finally breaking free from her grasp and running towards the exit without looking back.
His footsteps echoed in the corridor, as if pursued by countless ghosts. When he ran out of the teaching building, a gust of cold wind hit him, bringing him back to his senses a little.
Back in the dormitory, John lay in bed, unable to sleep for a long time, with the terrifying figure and the chilling cries constantly haunting his mind.
The next day, John told his classmates about his experience, but no one believed him. They thought he had hallucinated because of the legend. However, John knew that everything he had seen was real.
From then on, John tried to avoid that restroom as much as possible, and even the teaching building itself filled him with fear. But every time he woke up in the middle of the night, he would remember that terrible night and the ghost in the restroom.
As time passed, several strange incidents occurred in the school. Some students claimed to hear strange noises coming from the restroom when they passed by, while others saw distorted faces appearing on the windows, twisted with horror and terror.
The school was thrown into a state of panic, and the teachers tried to calm the students' nerves, but they couldn't dispel the fear that had taken root in everyone's hearts.
John decided he couldn't just sit by and do nothing. He and a few brave classmates formed an investigation team to uncover the truth behind the ghost in the restroom. They delved into the school's historical archives and discovered that many years ago, a female student had committed suicide in that very restroom, allegedly due to severe bullying.
Could the ghost that had been appearing all along be her? With this question in mind, John and his classmates decided to visit the restroom again at midnight.
As the clock struck twelve, they entered the restroom, which was still filled with an eerie atmosphere. Just as they were cautiously exploring, the ghost appeared once more.
"Why did you come to disturb me?" the ghost's voice was filled with anger, like a sharp icicle piercing through everyone's eardrums.
John mustered up his courage and said, "We know what happened to you, and we want to help."
The ghost fell silent for a moment, as if reminiscing about something. Then, she began to slowly recount her story, her voice filled with endless pain and resentment.
It turned out that the ghost was indeed the girl who had died in the restroom all those years ago. Her soul had been trapped there after death, unable to move on or leave this world. Her resentment had grown deeper and deeper, and she longed for release but felt powerless to achieve it.
John and his classmates were shocked and sympathetic after hearing her story. They realized that the ghost didn't want to harm them; she just wanted to be freed. So, they decided to hold a memorial ceremony to help her soul find peace.
With the help of a knowledgeable teacher, they conducted a solemn ritual in the restroom. They lit incense and candles, laid out offerings, and prayed sincerely for her. The ceremony lasted a long time, and in the end, they felt a mysterious force gradually dissipate.
From that day on, no strange occurrences happened in the restroom, and the school returned to its usual calm. However, for John and his classmates, this experience would forever be etched in their memories, becoming an unforgettable and terrifying chapter in their youth.
