Yé'iitsoh - Big God : Part 1

By Bryan HarveyPublished 6 years ago 3 min read

I went out camping on the reservation. It was pretty remote since I had no cell service and the nearest place to civilization was about 40 to 50 miles. It was amazing place, bunch of shade from the pines and even a pond. I kinda believe it use to be a lake but years of drought made it shrink. It took a few hours to set up camp so I didn't really do much once it hit the evening. I did manage a good camp fire and I made the best supper, STEAK. Nice juicy and well charred made you wanna slap your mama, haha I'm joking. Anyways the first night was a bit rough since I forgot the mats or a cushion. Around 2 or 3 in the morning, it was pretty weird, I woke up to hear a faint yelling or screaming. I remembered and that there could be cougars that could make that same-ish sounds so I just went back to sleep. I then woke up around 9 or 10 that morning felt refreshed and was getting ready for the day. My goal was to actually find and harvest some wild herbs my tribe use for medicines. And to enjoy time alone from society. I started hiking North of my camp where there was more vegetation. About 5 miles away I then discovered a old broken rusted truck. A old 1950 chevy I believe, was pretty cool but what caught my attention more was that there were weird scratch markings on it. I also think some shotgun holes but I wasn't to sure. Was very interesting it gave me the creeps and had my imagination going. I stopped my hike from there and headed back for camp.

Night soon arrived and I just made it back to camp. There was this strange smell of either a skunk, rotten eggs, or both but it was very unpleasant. I made a fire and burn some sage and pine needles to mass the strange smell. I was preparing my supper when I heard some knocks in a distances, it creeped out since there was no one around and it wasn't windy. My supper was a beef stew MRE so i just made it quickly and went to sleep. After a couple hours of sleep I awoke to hearing some noise within my camp. I pulled out my bear spray and pistol just to be prepared. I then noticed that the strange smell from earlier was back but it was stronger than ever. It must be coming from whatever was in my camp. I slowly unzipped part of my tent to try and see what was out there, but it was no use since it was pitch black. I then hear the suspicious animal walk off after a big thud and hissing noise came from my vehicle. I came to a conclusion to leave that morning and I would get the rest of my herbal medicines from my local flea market. I went back to sleep but with the spray ready in hand. Sunrise then woke me up and I went to check how my camp was. It was alright just a few things from the trash bag were on there ground, but then i took a look at my ride. It was pretty crazy what I've seen. Barefoot prints and hand print around and on my ride and a big ol dent on the back bumper. My tire was also flat; which explains that hissing noise. Just my luck, I thought I'd just pack up and leave but now I had to find a way to get my ride going.

I checked to see if I had a spare tire. Luckily enough I did have one but a new problem arose. I didn't have a jack. I wasn't sure what to do next I started to feel my anxiety rise. I partially scared and yet had to figure out how to get things going so I could leave. I then gathered everything and repacked the truck. Except for my hiking pack; I decided to go back to that old chevy and check to see if there was a old jack in there. It took me while to get there again because i sort of forgot where it was but i made it. It was evening though so I made a small camp by the old chevy. I was always told not to hike in the forest at night. I always wondered why but after last night I now know why. Camp was all set and I thought I make the camp a bit more safe by posting a few pointed stakes around camp and noise makers. It soon got dark spending hopefully my last night here.
