She ran quickly, as the fire went on behind her. The plane had crashed; it was shot down. Which didn't make sense. This was friendly territory. Why would they issue an attack? Unless they were mistaken for an enemy ship. But how? She was a nurse, a medic for the injured soldiers that now burned in the exploded crash behind her. She got further away, knowing her friend Marissa and the relay group were at the meet up spot in case she needed to pick up supplies or for rare situations like this.
She ran through the bit of forest as she saw it. A huge building with a white square and a red cross on it: Building 532. Before running out into the open, she looked around for any signs of people beside her relay medic team. Even though it was supposedly a peaceful territory, she was now wary of everything since the plane was obviously shot down by people on this military site. Someone had to issue the order to fire. When she saw no one, she quickly sprinted over to the medic building. Ignoring the fact that she saw literally no one, heard no vehicles or anything, which was strange since this was a military base with hundreds of people working on it.
Hurriedly pushing open the door and closing it behind her, immediately throwing down the locking bar. Something was wrong though the thought passed as she sighed in relief before turning to look inside the once white building. The white tile floors now splattered with still warm blood as bodies of workers, nurses and doctors lay torn and tossed about the main hall. A body laying face down over the reception counter, the skin on the back brutally ripped off. The notches of the spine visible as it dripped blood onto the keyboard and counter. Bodies on the floor all horribly mauled, some missing fingers or full limbs. One was without the right half of the head. A huge inhuman hole punched through its abdomen. She almost threw up. She had seen plenty of dead bodies before. Many soldiers came into her medic tent with missing arms and chunks missing due to grenades and landmines, etc.. But this was different. She didn't know of any military weapon capable of doing the things she saw before her. And one thing stood out in her thoughts: This blood was fresh, dangerously fresh and the smell of it hung heavy in the air.
“Marissa!” She thought though knowing her friend, she was somewhere safe. She was the one to run seminars on hidden spots and passages she petitioned to have made incase of an invasion or if the other army somehow reached the medic building.
She stepped over the bodies, trying not to look too hard at a woman with her intestines ripped out and wrapped around the throat of a body near her which had no eyes, the bottom jaw ripped off. She covered her mouth to stop herself from puking right there. She headed further down the hallway, the scene only got worse. A body with the top half of the head ripped off and its brain stuffed into the mouth. Another body with syringes shoved into the eyes and the chest torn open, showing the ribs though some were missing. She went into a room labeled "Main Infirmary". She stepped in and locked the door. All the lights in the building where on and she looked at the beds in the infirmary. This is normally where heavily injured soldiers were taken. The beds where all empty. She ran over to the third bed and moved it, finding a door that only came up to her knees behind a false panel.. It's exactly as her friend Marissa told her. She knocked three times and tapped the handle then knocked twice more. It was a certain knock Marissa told her to let her know who it was without speaking aloud. The door swung open and Marissa smiled relieved, her eyes bloodshot from crying as she came out of the crawl space and hugged her. She hugged Marissa tightly, glad that she was alive. When she asked Marissa what happened, Marissa teared up and looked her friend dead in the eyes.
"The alarms went off. I was in here finishing up paper work before coming to meet you at the rendezvous. When I heard screaming from the main hall. So much screaming. I opened the door to look for just a moment and I saw. i saw.." Marissa said as she froze up and shook her head over and over, reliving the horrors she had witnessed.
She hugged Marissa telling her they would get out and it would be ok. Marissa kept shaking her head no. Saying they were safer in the crawl space than anywhere else. She helped her friend up and they slowly stepped back into the main hallway. Marissa gasped in horror at the sight.
"We can unblock the front doors and take a military jeep and leave. The receptionist desk should have a key of some sort right" She said to Marissa.
Marissa was whimpering telling her that they shouldn't. She knew Marissa was scared but they couldn't stay there. As they made it back towards the receptions desk, she notice the body that had intestines wrapped around its neck with no eyes was no longer where it was when she first came in. She froze and saw blood on the thick steel bar locking the main door that she had put in place earlier. Something was waiting for them. She grabbed Marissas’ hand and ran back to the Main infirmary. Not looking back as she heard Marissa screaming. "Something behind us Hurry!"
They ran into the infirmary and locked the door. She asked Marissa if it was eyeless. She nodded. "it was eyeless but.. that wasn't what attacked everyone earlier.." Marissa said. She asked Marissa “then what exactly attacked the people and if that wasn't what did it.. then what was it”? Before she got to say anything else, there was a knock on the door. They both froze.
"Marissa, its Commander Harris. Let me in, what the hell is going on!?"
He must’ve seen them run in. She went to go to the door as Marissa quickly grabbed her arm and mouthed the words "No..It's not him". The knocking continued.
"Marissa Let me in! Mariss It's back.! What the--" The commanders’ voice was cut off and turned into screaming. The sick sound of flesh tearing as it then got silent. She and Marissa sat still, frozen in fear as blood creeped under the door. Was that actually him? Or is this thing smarter than anticipated. They then again heard a knock."Marissa let me in. It's safe" Marissa started shaking as she held onto her friend who kept her eyes glued to the door, Marissa quietly whispering that she was sorry over and over. The knocking turned into a harsh banging.
"Marissa let him in! This is an order".
The door began to shake as Marissa turned and looked at her friend who then looked back at Marissa. Marissas’ left eye was solid black, she still looked terrified. The door shook violently. "OPEN THE DOOR MARISSA OR END UP LIKE HIM. MARISSA DO YOUR JOB". She looked at Marissa who was now crying profusely as she got up slowly heading to the door and looked at her friend. "I'm sorry.. It's the only way it'll let me leave alive.." Marissa said, tears streaming down her face. Marissas’ hand rested on the lock; she was about to turn it and let whatever was out there..come in here. She looked at Marissa before lunging herself into the crawl space Marissa had been in. Locking the small door from the inside and crawling back, knowing the crawlspace led to a tunnel outside the Military base. A demonic voice bellowed.
"TIME IS UP MARISSA"
As she backed from the crawl space door, the infirmary door burst open. She went further back into it as she heard thuds of Marissa being thrown around. The screams as she hit the walls and the sounds of bones snapping as she heard her traitorous friend be ripped apart. She then noticed inscriptions on the door in the crawlspace. In another language as she heard loud thuds of footsteps towards the crawl space door. A loud boom hit the door yet the door didn't budge. The inscriptions lit up as it was hit and she realized it was protected, but for how long. Another loud boom and a few symbols disappeared. She had to hurry. She turned and started crawling down the tunnel as the booms continued. She saw a light into the next part of the tunnel as she heard a loud sound of wood cracking. The crawl space door was shattered, she ran out of time. A cold grip wrapped around her leg as she was pulled, clawing at the floor of the metal tunnel as the light got further away as she was pulled back towards the infirmary.
