Halloween is only a few days away, and this is one of the best tv specials to watch this spooky season.

The Simpsons Halloween specials are a treat that fans expect every year. The episodes contain a supernatural, horror and often gory elements that are usually parodies of well-known movies. The first Halloween special aired in 1990 and recently the new episode was announced to be delayed until November 1st. I, and millions of others are eagerly anticipating the new Treehouse of Horror XXXI also celebrating its 31 year anniversary. I decided to re-watch and binge the whole series and wanted to share some of my favorite episodes. (not in any particular order)

Treehouse of Horror V : The Shinning

Obviously, a spoof from Stephen King’s book, The Shining, The Simpsons are the new caretakers at Mr. Burns mansion. Before leaving, Burns turns off all the television and beer supply driving Homer insane.

Treehouse of Horror XXVIII : Coralisa

In a parody of Coraline, Lisa feels alienated from her family and is led into a secret tunnel by Snowball the cat. There she finds another set of her family members but with buttons for eyes. Lisa wishes to stay with them forever, but it comes with a horrifying cost that she’s willing to endure.

Treehouse of Horror VII : The Thing & I

Hugo has been living in the attic for 10 years and being fed a bucket of fish heads. He is soon discovered to be Bart’s evil conjoined twin. Marge and Homer have dreaded this day when Hugo and Bart finally come face to face and the real truth is revealed.

Treehouse of Horror XIII : The Island of Dr. Hibbert

The Simpsons go on vacation at Dr. Hibbert’s island where people are turned into animals. Based on the novel The Island of Doctor Moreau by H.G. Wells, we see Springfield’s townsfolk as various creatures. Homer is horrified at the sight of it all but soon accepts his real fate as a walrus.

Treehouse of Horror IV: The Devil and Homer Simpson

Homer will do anything for a donut. Anything. Like even selling his soul for one. He taunts the devil who is ironically Ned Flanders eating the donut but only leaving a crumb behind. The devil cannot technically consume Homer’s soul yet, but it is not too long until he does. Homer enjoys his time in hell, as the chosen torture method is an endless supply of donuts.

Treehouse of Horror III : Clown Without Pity

Homer forgets to get Bart a present for his birthday and at the last minute buys a Krusty doll. The doll turns out to be evil and is on a rampage to kill Homer.

Treehouse of Horror XXVIII : Mmm…Homer

The Simpsons family (except Homer) are off to Patty and Selma’s. Homer as expected eats up all the food in the house leaving only vegetables. He finds a stray frozen hotdog which he begins to prepare but accidently cuts his finger off onto the grill. He cannot resist having a taste and discovers how delicious he is.

Treehouse of Horror I: The Raven

A retelling of Edgar Allan Poe’s famous poem, we see Bart as the raven, Homer as the narrator and Marge as Lenore.

Treehouse of Horror VII : Citizen Kang

In this parody of the 1941 film Citizen Kane, Homer is kidnapped by two aliens Kang and Kodos. They ask who the former president is, finding out that there is an election next week. The aliens plan to kidnap the candidates and take on their forms to rule and enslave the nation.
