The Silent Town
A traveler stumbles upon a deserted town with no one in sight, but a strange presence lurks.
Ben had been driving for hours through the endless stretch of highway, tired and looking for a place to rest. As dusk approached, he spotted a small, seemingly abandoned town on the side of the road. It was the perfect place to stop for the night.
When he entered the town, everything seemed perfectly still. The streets were empty, and the buildings looked like they hadn't been touched in years. But there was something unnervingly off about it. The air was thick with an eerie silence, and the once vibrant paint on the houses had faded, leaving the buildings looking like they were frozen in time.
Ben wandered through the town, hoping to find an inn or at least someone to ask for directions. But every building he passed was empty, and there was no sign of life. Even the streetlights were dim, casting long shadows that seemed to stretch unnaturally across the ground.
Suddenly, he heard a faint whisper, as if someone was calling his name. He turned around, but there was no one there. He thought it might have been his imagination, but the whispering continued, growing louder, almost like a chant. He followed the sound, his heart pounding in his chest.
The whispering led him to the town's church, its doors creaking open on their own. Inside, the air was thick with dust, and the pews were overturned, as if something violent had happened. At the front of the church, a large stained-glass window depicted a strange figure—a woman with hollow eyes, her mouth open in a silent scream.
Ben stepped forward, but as he did, the floor beneath him creaked, and the whispering grew louder. He turned to leave, but the door slammed shut, trapping him inside.
The whispers turned into a deafening roar, and Ben felt the temperature drop, his breath visible in the freezing air. He looked around and saw the shadows in the church move, twisting and contorting into grotesque shapes.
Suddenly, the figure from the stained-glass window stepped out of the shadows, its hollow eyes staring directly at him. Its mouth opened wider, and the whispering grew louder until it was a maddening cacophony.
Ben tried to scream, but no sound came out. The town had claimed him, just as it had claimed so many others before him. The last thing he heard was the chilling whisper of the woman: "You're never leaving."
