The rules and superstation of tarot

the more you know

By Lena BaileyPublished about a year ago 3 min read

So I never knew that there was rules of tarot until the movie tarot came out and I wanted to share the wealth. I don't believe in gate keeping information. Some of the rules that I found sound more like advice. I want to share all of this to keep people safe and get the most out of this practice. So let's get started.

The first rule of tarot is that you can buy your own deck. Now there are some people that believe the first deck has to be gifted but it doesn't have to. It should be the deck that speaks to you. I have a Disney villains deck that I got for myself because I love Disney.

I think the most important rule is education and study. Even if you're intuitive you still need to study tarot. Read books and trusted resources. You can also learn from trusted tarot readers. There are so many myths that education is your friend.

Another important thing is honesty. Whether you are reading for yourself or others don't twist the meaning of what the cards mean. You don't have to be a jerk about. Some tough love could be ok if done right.

The next thing is respect. Respecting the cards is key. If you do not take a reading seriously, the cards will not respond seriously. By preparing a clean and clear area to do your readings you are already showing respect. If you can have a dedicated space that would be best. Don't read for people who don't take it seriously.

Intuition is a must for tarot. If something seems wrong with what you pulled listen to that. I've had a pull that seemed very off. Plus intuition could help with what the card means in that particular pull. Like the 3 of swords could mean hurt feelings or a breakup.

Build trust with whoever you read for. Don't break the trust. Don't tell them that everything is going to be ok if it's not. They will enjoy their reading more if they feel like they can trust you.

You can read for yourself but don't repull cards because you don't like the one's pulled. You started this pull for a reason and repulling them just because you don't like them defeats the purpose.

The cards can only be dangerous if they become an obsession. Don't become too reliant on the cards. Anything can become an obsession or addiction.

I've heard that you shouldn't let anyone else touch your cards. Some people feel like this one is up to the reader and owner of the cards. There are people who have different decks for their personal or professional readings. This rule has to do with the energy that can transfer to your deck. It could throw the cards off. Yes sage can help but it could only do so much. It is up to you whether or not you let people touch your deck. You should also look at their intentions and their energy before they touch your deck.

You should clear your mind if you are reading. It may also help if you don't read while sick. This could throw off your reading.

Also, there is a lot of misconceptions over a few cards, and I would like to address them here. 3 of swords could mean heartache or could mean betrayal it's not always the breakup card. The devil card doesn't always mean the literal devil it could mean something you need to work on or something you are chained to. It could also mean a bad habit or an addiction. Then there is the death card and that could mean rebirth or a fresh start.

I hope this helps. If you have questions please comment or email me.
