In the city of Faro, which is situated in the Algarve area of Portugal, there is a theatre known as Teatro Lethes, sometimes referred to as Teatro Letes. This theatre is surrounded by buildings. When it was initially constructed, the structure was a Jesuit college and dates back to the year 1605. In 1845 it was first opened to the public as a theatre.

The initial structure was the Colegio de Santiago Mayor de. Company at the. Zeus, which was a Jesuit college that was established by Fernando Martins Mascarenas, the Bishop of the Algarve. The former college was used to lodge French troops during the French invasion of Portugal in 1807, which was led by General Jean Andacht Juneau. As a result of this, the college was severely desecrated throughout the duration of the invasion. Subsequently, the skeletal remains of a Napoleonic soldier were discovered encased inside the walls of the theatre. The property, which had been occupied by the order of the Carmelites until the year 1834, was sold in 1843.

At a public auction to Lazaro Dogliani, an Italian physician from Venice, Dogliani had publicly expressed his intention to construct a theatre in Farrow that would be comparable to the Teatro Nacional de San Carlos in Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, and Lascala in Milan. As a result of being shipwrecked off the coast of Cape Saint Vincent in the year 1804, dog Lioni made the decision to remain in Portugal. He had been travelling from Italy to England at the time.

Following the completion of the necessary renovations, the Teatro lathes was officially opened to the public on April 4th, 1845, which was also the birthday of Queen Maria. The second lathy, which is one of the five rivers flowing through the underworld of Hades in Greek mythology. Was the name that was given to this river. In the Latin inscription that is located on the front of the building, the phrase it instructs with amusement may be translated as it instructs with amusement.

Approximately in the year 1860, Dogliani's nephew, Justino Cumano, took possession of the theatre and proceeded to develop it in order to enhance its capacity.

On September 11th, 1898, the location of Faro played host to the very first Theatre Graph presentation, which was an early film projector. The theatre received further renovations between the years 1906 and 1908 with the goal of enhancing both the acoustics. And the comfort of the air.

The popularity of the establishment, on the other hand, started to decrease at the beginning of the 1920s and eventually was discontinued in 1925. The Kumano family made the decision to sell the building to the Portuguese Red Cross in the year 1951. Following the completion of a series of restoration projects, the Algarve Theatre Company Act TA was given the responsibility of managing the theatre in October of 2012.

This organization not only hosts performances, but also makes use of the venue for hosting receptions. As of today, the church that was located in the middle of the theatre from the front was the Jesuit colleges building and the two buildings that were located on the sides were part of the college property.
