The Real Story Of Baobhan Sith
Scottish Vampire

The Baobhan Sith is often shown as a beautiful young lady who is dressed in a long green garment that hides the fact that she has deer hooves instead of feet. Following in the footsteps of past vampires, she consumes the blood of human victims and will disappear as soon as the sun rises. Another possible manifestation of her is that of a hooded crow or raven.
The appearance of the Baobhan Sith practically soon after the hunters proclaim their yearning for female companionship is a pattern that appears often in stories that revolve around the Baobhan Sith. It is tied to a historic Scottish belief that if a person were to make a wish at night without also requesting God's protection, then that desire would be fulfilled in some awful way. This belief is connected to the fact that this is the case.
Numerous tales concerning the baobhan sith revolve around the common subject of hunters being attacked in the forest at night. These tales are told in a variety of different ways. In "the" story that Mackenzie reported, there were four men who went hunting and then sought refuge for the night in a shieling or cabin that was all by themselves. At the same time as the other guys started dancing, one of the males provided the vocal music. Following the men's declaration that they were looking for partners to dance with, four ladies entered the hut shortly after that action. Considering that iron is a typical weakness for fairies, Katharine Briggs hypothesized that the reason the Baobhan Sith was unable to capture the fourth man among the horses was due of the iron that was used to shoe the horses.
In another story that was quite similar to this one, one of the males saw that the ladies had hooves instead of feet, and he ran away from them. When he came back the next morning, he saw that the other hunters had their throats slit and their chests lay bare.
There is a third tale in which the hunters sought sanctuary in a cave. One of the guys, whose name was Macphee and who was accompanied by his black dog, said that he would like his wife to stay at home that night. However, all of the men expressed their desire for their own love to be there that evening. At that very time, a group of young ladies entered the cave, and the males who had longed for their sweethearts were put to death. Macphee was guarded by his dog, which was responsible for driving the ladies out of the cave.
The appearance of the baobhan sith practically soon after the hunters declare their yearning for female company is a theme that appears often in these tales. It is tied to a historic Scottish belief that if a person were to make a wish at night without also requesting God's protection, then that desire would be fulfilled in some awful way.
