The Real Haunted Story Of The Volcano House Hotel

Most guests of a Hawaiian hotel anticipate comfort. Some Hawaiian themed decor and maybe a good view of the ocean. Though they believe it or not, the Hawaiian Islands are home to very many hotels, surrounded by spine chilling legends. What they do not anticipate is to remain up at night, terrified of the paranormal.

Among these hotels is the venerable Volcano House Hotel. Though our word for it is not accurate, consider the intriguing past and eerie tales about this otherwise beautiful resort. Having started as a small one room shelter constructed of grass and native Ohio Wood poles in the middle 1800's, The old hotel was rebuilt in 1866 with a four room wooden frame construction that accommodated notable visitors like Mark Twain, who said of the establishment.

Neat, large, tastefully equipped, and a well kept hotel. Finding a decent hotel in such an unusual location shocked me far more than the volcano did. But the hotel's past isn't as glittering as Mark Twain would have you think. After a fire destroyed the whole hotel in 1940, the building was reconstructed with many expansions and alterations throughout the next 8 decades.

Rumor has it that an old lady ghost claimed to be seen often by a prior owner of Volcano House and his family. Additionally observed in guest rooms and meandering the halls is this hideous lady. Additionally, recorded have been sightings of a ghostly white dog on the hotel's entry Rd. Many people think this white dog is Pele, the Hawaiian goddess of fire and volcanoes disguised warning visitors of death.

We should not overlook telling you about Pele's curse. Even with views of the Kilauea caldera in the dining room and part of the guest court. According to the curse, anybody who removes Rock Oregon sand from the Hawaiian Islands will experience poor fortune until the objects are returned. Whether Pele created this tale or just a frustrated park worker is unclear.

But every year, hundreds of guests bring bundles of pebbles and sand back to the island to alleviate their bad luck. Although the paranormal activity at Volcano House is based largely on legends and stories, there is no doubting the intriguing past of the old hotel.
