We're going to talk about the Ouija board in this article because it freaks and perplexes me. I believe Ouija boards work, and after having had two experiences that involved two different kids playing with one, I would never want to touch one. But let's say even if I didn't believe that Ouija boards do what they're supposed to, why would I ever buy my kids a toy that has the primary function of frightening people?

This first tale was shared on Reddit by someone who claimed that when one of her friends discovered an Ouija board in her attic, they began playing with it and when they inquired as to whom they were speaking to, the board spelled out Gemma Jiang. Her friend was adopted, so she didn't know much about her biological family, but she later learned that Gemma Chang Parham, her biological grandmother, had passed away that morning while they were using the Ouija board.

The next collection came from a man who recalled how, as a young adult, he had a friend who mentioned that she owned an Ouija board. He asked her to come over so they could play with it. She initially resisted but eventually gave in as long as she was not required to participate. When she finished setting up the board, the man asked, "Is anyone in here?," and when he got no response, he declared, "If anything is in here and not talking, you are a coward.". When there was still no response, they put the board away, and that was that—until a week later when the man was upstairs sleeping at his house, he woke up to a stormy night akin to those in horror movies and was trying to figure out what had woken him. He tried to fall back asleep after determining that there was nothing out of the ordinary, and as he did so, he overheard a very raspy voice from downstairs calling for the boy. Of course, that woke him up, but he reasoned that perhaps he had imagined it, so he tried again to fall back asleep. At that point, the voice grew louder and repeated, "Get the boy!" Suddenly, his downstairs door slammed. There shouldn't have been anyone downstairs at all, but his entire family was sleeping upstairs.

This next tale is horrifying because a doll is involved. This person was playing with an Ouija board in the basement one evening with his cousin, his cousin's father, and his best friend. I don't know why anyone would choose to mess around with an Ouija board in dark places like basements. But, for some reason in that basement, there was also a super creepy large porcelain doll so they took the doll and placed it in the next room face down on a pile of towels because they found it too creepy and then they started to use the Ouija board. Initially, the board was just spitting out random information, so the cousin went to the restroom. While he was in the restroom, the board had changed to a list of random numbers, which again appeared to be a bunch of garbage. Just before deciding to put the board away, they wrote down the numbers, but when the cousin returned and saw them, he said, "That's my social security number.". Once more using the board, the group then declared that the cousin would perish in the air force. The group then demanded a demonstration of the entity's legitimacy. The word doll was now written on the board. They went to check on the doll after remembering they had left it face down in the next room. The doll was standing directly in front of the door, staring at them when they opened it.

The person who shared this next tale on Reddit claimed that when she was a young child, her mother pulled out an Ouija board and asked if she and her brother would like to play with it. So they began to play, and the mom tried to call George, a friend of hers who had recently vanished for about a month. When they asked who they were speaking to, George's name was spelled out, and when the mom tried to confirm if that was her friend, he said yes. At this point, the mom was very upset, so she asked him where he was, and he replied, "Right behind you...just kidding.". He claimed to be in a lake. The family stopped playing immediately and the mom tried to play it off like it was just a game but then about two weeks later the police found George's body. He was on a bridge when he was hit by a car, and his body fell into a nearby lake.

This person after them swears that the narrative that follows is true. She claimed that about 15 years ago when her sister's friends visited, they were watching horror films in the basement and playing with a Ouija board. They began shouting and calling the Ouija board a fake when they didn't get much of a response, so they stopped using it and resumed watching the movie. The TV abruptly turns off (as is only natural), the power suddenly cuts out, and when it restarted, all that was left was static and noise. Then the television turned off and then came back on, the girls were all essentially peeing in their pants. The screen was blank and the words "This is not a game anymore" were scrolling across it in all white. The TV finally turns off after that.

The girl who posted the following tale claimed to have known Johnny, who was afflicted with a serious illness, back in 1986 when she was a senior in high school. Each time she and her friend Shelley visited Johnny in the hospital, they would play with an Ouija board. One day after seeing Johnny. He began conversing with a spirit who appeared to be well-versed in their details. Finally, they enquired about the spirits regarding Johnny's state. Johnny won't have to worry about anything anymore on June 24th, 1987, and then the word goodbye appeared on the board quickly after. The girls were ecstatic because they believed the board had provided them with the day on which Johnny would fully recover, but one year later, they realized the board had not accurately predicted Johnny's recovery date because that day had seen Johnny's death.

Hopefully, you enjoyed this article. You can leave in the comments, your thoughts on Ouija boards in general as well as what you think about their suitability for kids.
