The Monster On Your Bed

"You don't know how long you have been hiding under there. Your limbs are numb. You're hungry. And you're scared that if you make a sound, the monster on your bed will find you."

The Monster on your Bed - It's Here.

Inspired by my #vsshorror on Twitter and nightmares.

Huddled under the bed, and limbs numb, you realize you have no idea how long you've been hiding.

Fear grips you tightly, and your heart pounds in your chest, drowning out all other sounds, as you desperately try to stifle your breathing.

A single misplaced foot or a sudden noise could mean the end. But you can't stay here forever.

You need to escape...but how?

"Johnny," the monster whispers. "I know you're under there."

You suppress a whimper.

Is this the end?

After all this time of cowering and suffering, the monster has finally found you.

You don't know what it looks like.

You've never seen it, but you can imagine its presence.

Its breath is a hot, damp wind that blows over you, making your skin crawl. Now and then, you hear a scrape or a shuffling noise from the closet, and you flinch - certain that it's coming for you.

So, that's why you're under the bed. You have hoped that it will eventually go away.

You thought that if maybe - just maybe, if he did not see you under your covers tonight, he will lose interest.

Maybe, if you just wait it out until sunrise, he will go away.

Oh, how wrong you have been!

Your mind then wanders to happier times, when you were safe in your bed, surrounded by your favourite plushies.

You wish that you have at least taken your favourite Stitch Plushie with you under the bed.

But it's too late now.

"Johnny," the monster hissed, demanding your attention.

You want to scream, but alas! Fear has stolen your voice.

"Kid," the monster carefully continues. "I know you're afraid. That's why I am here. But no matter what, do not leave that spot until sunrise. Do not make any movements. Do not make any noise."

You freeze.

Is it toying with you? Luring you out of hiding so it can pounce?

"Johnny," the monster whispers again, its voice low and soothing. "I won't hurt you. Just stay where you are, and everything will be alright."

You stay silent, unsure.

You could stay put, but what if the monster is lying? What if it's just waiting for you to make a mistake?

Or you could try to escape, but where would you go? The closet is too small to hide in, and the door is too far away.

"Johnny," the monster says. You hear a crack of fear in its voice. "It's here."

Your closet door creaks open, as you hear sharp nails scrape against the ceiling. You hear the monster shuffle, and whimper, as the creature from the closet crawls on the ceiling.

You are paralyzed, your heart racing, as you hear the monster scream in agony.

You can hear the sickening crunch as the unknown creature tear the monster apart.

When the screaming finally stops, you hear the creature dragging something back into the closet.

Tears silently stream from your eyes as you try to stop yourself from shaking.

Hours pass but you stay under the bed. Until the sun finally rises. Its warm rays spill into the room, illuminating everything in a golden glow.

Finally gathering courage, you scramble out from under the bed, taking deep, gasping breaths.

I'm safe. You sob. I'm finally safe.

Suddenly, you hear nails scraping against the ceiling.

You look up in horror and see the creature above you.

Its body is twisted and contorted, with limbs that seem to move in impossible ways. Pus drips down from its hollow eyes, and its mouth is full of razor-sharp teeth.

"Are you Johnny?" The creature grins as its bony finger points at you.

Too numb to run, you squeeze your eyes shut and pray - desperately hoping that this is all just a terrible dream.

When you feel the creature's breath on your skin, you open your eyes and see its mouth gaping wide.

You should have stayed under the bed.
