The Man With No Neck

A true story from 1985

By Rohitha LankaPublished 8 months ago 4 min read

During the war in 1985, my father was a 22-year-old boy.. At this time, my father is serving as an army officer...

My father served in the North and East for 22 years.. He has shared with us several such stories that happened during these 22 years..

This is one of the stories...!

In 1985, my father had to work in a place called Pulukunawa in Ampara. As I said, there was a camp on top of a rocky plateau with a climb of about 45 minutes.

In that camp, there was a separate room with a bed for my father to sleep in. But everyone said, sir, don't sleep on that bed, they won't let you sleep there. The previous sir was also very scared. It doesn't seem like anyone is bothering him... (As my father said, the previous sir had gone there when the duty was changed. But the sir he said had suddenly disappeared in his house within two weeks)

At this time, my father was 22 years old. He was old enough to listen to anyone. That's why my father said, I'm not afraid of anything, I'm sleeping here. 🥹

But when I was sleeping in the afternoon, at exactly 12 noon, my father saw A man with no black neck floated up and sat next to the bed and pulled him by the leg.. as if trying to pull him to the ground..

When the father got scared, he screamed and got up..

So the people laughed and told the sir that they wouldn't let him sleep there, that there was a small problem there..

But to my shame, there was no father. I slept here all night.. Exactly at 12 o'clock in the night, I saw a man with no black neck coming closer..

Then I tried to get out of bed.. but the father was still sleeping..

And so 2 or 3 days passed.. But the father was still sleeping in that room. After that, the torture he gave me got worse and worse.. One day at 12 o'clock in night, the man with no neck came closer in the same way. That day, it felt like he was squeezing my father's neck.. It was very difficult to breathe.

But the boys were embarrassed that they would laugh, so Dad slept in that room until he was there.. 😁

-----------------------------------

Then after a while Dad came home on leave...

After coming home for a day or two, Dad saw that at 12 midnight, the one without a neck was sitting near the bed at home, laughing..(as if to show that he had followed me)

Then he kept coming home at 12 and squeezing his neck.. He said he had caused trouble one by one

Then Dad had to go to Diyatalawa for training.

Even when he was sleeping there at night, it seemed like he was floating near every bed at 12 and looking for his father. Then he came near the bed where his father was and stopped. That day, he didn't even let him breathe, just squeezing his neck. That day, he said he was really scared.

He said where was the 60 in the billet? .. When his father shouted, everyone got out of bed in fear.

Then, since this wasn't going to work, he came home and told his grandmother this story.. Grandma took him to a place with a broom.

The next morning, when he saw him, his father said that the broom he had put on was badly twisted and crushed.....

Then, he said he would take him back to that place and say that he was angry with his father, that that rascal could have done him a lot of harm. And he said what else he had done from there.

But it's not like he stopped scaring the 12.

Then, his father says that he got tired of it and left. 😁

When I looked into the past, my father was told by a village worker in that village at that time..

He said that there was a meditation monastery there many years before the camp was built, and that there was a big monk and a little monk..

A Tamil man used to work in Denama..

One day, the big monk received an invitation to give a sermon. So, the Tamil man went down with the big monk.. They had to go down for about an hour along a rock through a forest to get to the village.. They had to return to the monastery the next morning....

But on the way, they got caught in a heavy rain.. So, thinking that the little monk would be scared, the big monk sent the Tamil man back to the monastery..

The little monk stayed alone in that monastery that day, afraid. The little monk had been given alms for protection..

But the Tamil man who had said he would come the next day had come back to the monastery at 8 or 9 pm.. The little monk, who was scared of that, had

gone mad with the manna...

By then the Tamil man had disappeared

(shaking his head)

So after that he was the one causing all this trouble!

My father has had other experiences like this during the war.. I will also put those stories forward...
