The Man from the Crest

no longer a legend.

There were many legends that stated there was a mysterious man waving away to boats as they departed from the shores.

It's said that those who spotted him from the ships will never see the light of day again, as he waved his final goodbyes to the people onboard.

Worst part ? This ain't no fairytale. There were actual reports of this man, though vague, that have appeared in public circulation since 1910.

Whoever reported the man waving to a ship described what was soon to happen to it as outright "unnatural", though coincidental.

Others rushed to label his waving as a sign of bad luck for the ship's trip and therefore the casting of a curse upon it.

This was way back twenty years ago, and if I were still in my right mind, I would not believe one bit of it.

I, instead, would've rushed to label him as just some random man who wished to scare ships by pretending to cast bad luck on them.

Who knows, maybe it was a fun activity for him...

Now, if you reached this far, I have a message for you, whoever you might be :

My name was Jacob Kligg. I was part of a naval exploration crew send out to sea on the 12th of May 1932, and who departed from the coast of Gyrus at 7:33 on the morning of the same day. It is now Monday.

I don't know how you found this note, or even if someone will ever find it by a sheer stroke of luck, but this is all I can do now.

I see him.

There is no joke here.

No pun.

No legend.

No fakes.

He is real.

He exists.

He is visible and he is right now waving goodbye to our ship, right from the coast, as the legends who date back years ago state.

I see him, and I know he sees me.

I look at him, and he looks at me.

I don't know if someone else sees him, but I do.

I am scared, but I don't think he is.

Even though I only see him briefly, I can discern a smiling face, but no, he is not smiling out of joy.

Nor because he likes us.

Nor because he wishes us a safe trip.

I believe he just smiles because that's what he is.

He is tall. Abnormally tall.

He is slim. Extremely slim.

He is wearing a suit. A black suit.

He is still smiling.

He knows that I know we will never see him again.

It is now 7:50 and something is catching up to the ship from below the water.

It came from the coast.

I do not know what it is.

It's shadow lingers closer and closer to the rear end of the ship.

If you find this note, please tell my family that the man from the coast got us.

Tell them he is real.

Reveal to the whole world this note.

Protect yourself from him.

Oh...how I wish I'd known he was the one on the coast when I embarked.

Do you have any regrets ?

Because I don't anymore.

Jacob Kligg, 33
