THE LITTLE SCOTISH GIRL

No One Knows

By MANOJKUMAR K Published 3 years ago 5 min read

Braemar is a tiny community located in the harsh Scottish Highlands. Braemar, located in the shadow of the Cairngorm Mountains, is a destination of breathtaking beauty, rough terrain, and ancient history. But, it is also a location of dark stories and spooky tales, with the souls of the dead reputed to walk freely among the living.

The story of a little girl named Ailsa is one of Braemar's most lasting legends. Ailsa was born into a farming family on the outskirts of the community. She was noted for her beauty and charming, compassionate demeanour from a young age. Her parents were impoverished but proud, and they worked very hard to care for their daughter.

Ailsa developed into the focus of many young men's attention as she got older. Her stunning blue eyes and long, flowing hair were the buzz of the community, and many young men fought for her affection. Ailsa, on the other hand, was timid and quiet, and she kept to herself, daydreaming of the day she would meet her true love.

Ailsa met a young man named Andrew one day. Andrew was a tall, attractive young man with a kind heart and a sweet demeanour. He stood out among the other young men in the hamlet, and Ailsa was drawn to him. They fell completely in love and spent every available time together, wandering hand in hand over the meadows and hills that encircled Braemar.

Their joy, however, was fleeting. Andrew's family belonged to a competing clan, and Ailsa's father prevented them from meeting. Ailsa was distraught, and she pleaded with her father to allow her to remain with the guy she loved. Her father, however, refused, stating that Andrew was not a good fit for her.

Ailsa and Andrew continued to meet in secret, despite her father's misgivings. They would sneak away together whenever they could, saying romantic nothings in the moonlight. Yet their joy was brief, and their secret was eventually exposed.

Ailsa was heading home from a covert rendezvous with Andrew one night when she was ambushed by a gang of men from Andrew's tribe. They brutally beat her and dumped her in a ditch on the side of the road. The next morning, Ailsa's body was discovered, her face pummelling and bruised, her once-beautiful hair matted with blood.

The death of Ailsa's adored daughter saddened her family. For months, they mourned her death, reluctant to leave their house or talk to anybody in the hamlet. But then something weird happened one night.

Ailsa's mother was getting ready to go to bed when she heard a light knock at the door. As she opened it, she saw a young woman with long, flowing hair and gorgeous blue eyes standing in the darkness. That was Ailsa's spirit, returning to see her family for the last time.

Ailsa's ghost became a common appearance in Braemar over time. Others would see her strolling the streets late at night, her long hair flying in the breeze, her eyes full with desire and pain. Several claimed to have heard her sobbing or reaching out for Andrew, while others claimed to have seen her in their dreams, asking with them to help her find peace.

Despite the fear and superstition that surrounded Ailsa's ghost, some locals grew to regard her as a type of guardian angel, looking over them and keeping them safe. They would leave food and drink offerings at the site where Ailsa was said to have died, trying to calm her restless spirit.

The legend of Ailsa's ghost got stronger over time. Other locals claimed to have felt her presence in their homes, as if she was keeping an eye on them. Others claimed unusual events such as doors opening and closing on their own or things moving inexplicably in the middle of the night.

Many people in Braemar refused to believe in Ailsa's spirit, despite the myths and legends surrounding her. They laughed at those who claimed to have seen her and disregarded the stories as the ramblings of superstitious peasants.

One dark and stormy night, though, a group of young guys decided to put the legend to the test. They set out into the countryside, equipped with lights and courage, ready to discover Ailsa's ghost and finally put a stop to the myths.

They heard a faint voice calling out to them as they went over the hazy moors. They followed the sound, their hearts racing with terror and excitement. Then they noticed her: a young woman with long, flowing hair and piercing blue eyes standing on the brink of a cliff, gazing out over the sea.

Fear gripped the young guys as they neared Ailsa's ghost. When they got closer, they understood she wasn't there to hurt them. In fact, she looked to be inviting them closer, as if she had a message for them.

Ailsa's spirit then spoke to them in a quiet, melancholy voice. She informed them about Andrew and the catastrophe that had befallen her. She expressed her desire for peace and to find a way to move on.

The young men were transfixed when Ailsa's spirit talked to them, her voice laced with anguish and remorse. Then, as quickly as she had emerged, she faded into the mist, leaving the young guys in stillness.

The tradition of Ailsa's ghost took on new significance after that night. She was no longer seen as a furious ghost or a forerunner of disaster. Instead, she became a symbol of love and sorrow, a reminder of life's fragility and the strength of love to endure even in the face of tragedy.

Visitors to Braemar can still hear legends of Ailsa's ghost, and many of them lay offerings at the location where she is claimed to have died. Some claim to have seen her out and about at night, while others claim to have sensed her presence in their houses.

Whatever people think about Ailsa's ghost, her story is a striking tribute to the lasting power of love and the unbreakable link that exists between two people who are genuinely intended to be together.

And so the story of Ailsa's ghost comes to an end. Her tale endures, serving as a chilling reminder of love and loss, tragedy and hope. Whether she is genuine or a creature of the imagination, her story continues to enchant and inspire all who hear it. And perhaps, in some tiny way, Ailsa's spirit still roams the moors of Braemar, keeping an eye on the town and its inhabitants and reminding us all of the strength of love to persevere even in the face of the most terrible disasters.
