The Haunted Bridge

Of Runcorn Old Town

Is this Bridge Haunted?

The Silver Jubilee Bridge that connects Runcorn and Widnes, is a British landmark within Cheshire. It has a green ark that can be visible as far as Liverpool (although only on a very clear, sunny day). It is a famous piece of architecture that is instantly recognisable. What many of you may not be aware of however, is that this bridge has been known to be haunted. Just stop and think about the amount of automobile accidents that have happened on this bridge, and the ghosts that now linger there after these terrible accidents.

A few years ago, the bridge was under renovation. So only the builders were allowed entry within the premises. I do not know why ghosts only appear when these locations are empty, perhaps they are too afraid of the living? The builders soon saw strange things. They thought trespassers were creeping around the bridge. A man by the name of Tom, he worked on the bridge and often chased after them. He soon discovered that these mysterious strangers, wore unusual clothes. He saw one boy dressed in bell bottomed jeans, with long flowing hair, like he was from the 1970s. Another was of an elderly man, spotted in a long black coat and top hat. Another builder named John, claimed to see an old car from the 1960s, parked in the middle of the bridge. When Tom and John both approached these strange apparitions, the ghosts vanished before their very eyes. I felt the cold breeze from the bridge, during this time. I can confirm, ghosts certainly haunted the bridge often, when it was under renovation.

Nowadays, the Silver Jubilee Bridge is open to the public again and on most days, it is incredibly rare to see any paranormal activity upon it. However, if you find yourself driving through it around midnight, on a particularly quiet and foggy night, you may just be visited by an unwanted guest, somebody who has already died. Some late night truck drivers tend to avoid the old bridge during these later hours, because one of them almost crashed into the river Mersey below one night. He claims to have seen a crying girl in a 1940s style dress, sprinting across the road, crying bloody tears. The sight alone was enough to petrify the grown man alone, never mind the crash that almost took his life.

Yet it is not just the ghosts of people that haunt Runcorn, but the echoes of old cars too, those that had been destroyed in previous auto mobile accidents. Drivers have seen retro vehicles race passed them, without seeing them in their wind mirrors before hand. This is a common occurrence upon the old haunted bridge in particular. It might just be because the bridge is ancient and has seen a lot of death. If you're really afraid of meeting the undead, then I recommend taking the new bridge to work. Especially if you find yourself driving home from a graveyard shift.

Thankfully, there is a new bridge in town, that was only built a few years ago. As far as I know, there hasn't been too many accidents on this bridge yet, so the chances of it being haunted are honestly quite slim. However, that doesn't mean it is impossible for ghosts to be spotted on their. It may just be a matter of time though. So, if you're really sorry terrified of the occult and all of it's horror, than you may prefer driving over this new bridge instead? But what is the fun in that? Runcorn is a town full of supernatural secrets and myths, why not visit the Silver Jubilee Bridge for yourself at midnight, where you are most likely to see something otherworldly.

If you're fascinated by the occult, than perhaps Runcorn is worth a visit! From it's haunted castle, cursed Byron Street and Alien sightings. You never know what horrors await within this British town!
