The Goblin Trials
The Escape Story of Sylvan & Lyra, Chapter One

Darkness. It was all I saw, no sky, no light. Just an empty void. I felt the rickety movement of an old carriage rolling by. Everything here is navigated and found by all senses other than sight. Such is the way The Goblin Trials were made.
"Lyra, are you there?" A soft voice chimed out from behind me. Sylvan, my only friend and ally in this shrouded place.
"Yeah, I'm here. How have you been you big brute?" I ask in turn, swinging around and hugging him. In the darkness we live in, we have never seen each other. Regardless, we are siblings by name only.
"Lyra, it's almost time," I could feel his muscles tighten "The Goblin Trials are about to begin." A dark pit hit my stomach. The Goblin Trials are brutal, where we are exposed to the light. To be able to see in the harsh brightness, a blessing and a curse.
My arms drop to my sides as I begin to feel uneasy about his next few words.
"They're putting us against each other, Lyra." Sylvans' voice breaks as beads of tears hit the top of my head.
When The Stars Align Above The Sky
The blinding light, white and painful. Memories strike back from my past as a little girl. A woman holding my hand, her hair a bright brilliant red, white-tanned skin, her eyes a bright hazel rimmed with gold, freckles dotted her face. She was beautiful, radiant, and I think I was her daughter. It's the only memory I have before the night sky came across the land. Where I was introduced to the World of the Darkness.
"Wake up lazy bones." A hard nudge came from Sylvan on my left as I awoke.
"I'm awake, what's the..." My voice trails off as we exit the Underworld City, a bright starry night sky expanded above me. I immediately looked to Sylvan, to see the man I've been calling my Brother. Tall, massive really, muscles the size of tree trunks, dark olive skin, silver hair and pointed ears. He's an Elf, or at least a Half Elf, a conversation for another time. He has a soft boyish face, locked with stern green eyes. A short gruff beard shadows his jawline, stretching from ear to ear.
Sylvan looks to me,
"You're," he blushes insanely, flushing darker than I thought possible "beauty is like that of the night sky." He pauses, looking into my eyes.
"Shut up." I blush, I feel the blood coursing through my cheeks in a hot flash.
"I'm serious, It's like looking into freshly cut birch-wood, only to find gold and warmth." Sylvan's eyes trail all around me, "No one is going to touch my little sister." He chuckles.
"shihwùgod!" A single green creature barks out from in front of us. Leading us by chains.
"It told us to shut up, our human emotions make it sick" I chuckle and punch Sylvan softly on the arm earning me a sarcastic "Ouch".
The Beauty within the Green Blood Flowing
Before we knew what hit, it felt like a storm brewed in a matter of seconds. Screams and roars filled the air. Our rag tag group of prisoners was thrown to the ground, the chains shattered and Sylvan picked me up and ran off towards the screams.
"My friends followed through." Is all Sylvan said as I slump unconscious.
