The Forbidden Fruit
Be careful what you order on the dark web

The forbidden fruit
A particularly over curious and adrenaline loving boy was Archie. A thrill seeker no matter the consequences, due to this he frequented the “deep web”
One day he decided to browse unique things to eat within the depths of the deep web. Bored of the average everyday foods he ate within his own home. He always brought the same old crap from supermarkets to fill his fridge and cupboards with, being the lazy man child that he was he rarely cleaned out what was spoilt nor cared to try. It was too much effort in his mind. It wasn’t until the smell became unbearable did he eventually care to do so.
He wondered if he could purchase something that didn’t spoil so easily, he wondered if he could purchase something which tasted unique unlike the festering dead chickens in his fridge, his mouldy MacDonald’s burgers eating their ways through takeaway boxes which overflowed his bins. He began to search through fruits. Fruits he’d never heard of before until his eyes were drawn to one in particular.
When he finally received the fruit in the post he was eager to consume it. He’d felt so bored cooped up in his room eating the same old garbage, he was thrilled to try something new for a change.
When he bit into it tasted so refreshing, so sweet and juicy. It felt like a hydrating coconut on a deserted island, he was overwhelmed by the delicious pungently sweet nectar it produced, the reviews he read on the deep web’s site where correct and he’d never tasted anything quite like it. He started to feel like an emperor graced with a great gift, but the feeling didn’t last long.
Suddenly he recoiled at a sharp stinging sensation in his throat, a sensation so sharp that it caused him to drop the fruit which sprayed juice on impact with the ground. He felt like he’d just swallowed a razor and his gut gurgled grimly. He let out a painful hacking noise and gripped at his throat with clawed hands; a drip of rose red blood escaped the corner of his mouth and ran down his chin. He quickly rushed to the mirror and opened his mouth as wide as he could like he were a snake ready to consume prey. His eyes widened closing his mouth quickly with his lower lip quivering, opening his mouth again it looked like the inside walls of his throat where moving like things where burrowing underneath his skin. He began to panic, he shook his head and he began to think the fruit had been spiked with some sort of drug that was causing him to hallucinate. That wouldn’t have been surprising for someone from the deep web to do with their anonymity. He frantically ran to the kitchen and scoured the floor for the fruit to see for himself if he could see suspicious substances.
Finding it he picked it up almost slipping on its juices in the process which flooded his floor, he could see none nor smell anything unusual but it wasn’t long till his fingers, then hand started feeling the stinging sensation his throat did. He dropped the fruit again like it was a hot coal which scalded him; the juice seeped into his rag nail. He washed his hands furiously under his kitchen tap until he felt his body tense. He felt like he wasn’t in control anymore, something was pulling at his strings causing his hands to be pulled away from the tap, his whole body started to shake and he tried to regain control. It was no use. The next thing he knew his hands where outstretching like a little kid longing for a sweetie on the top shelf out of reach, but they weren’t reaching for a sweet. They were reaching for the fruit.
Archie let out a yell of protest as his body proceeded to move without his command; he began to feel hard lumps form in his throat. His hand gripped the fruit tightly and his body forced him to take another bite. The initial delicious taste had gone, it was no longer thirst quenching, and it felt like oozing lava running down his throat. Something was extremely wrong; Archie couldn’t believe what was happening to him. He began to notice he wasn’t swallowing the fruit yet somehow it was disappearing from his throat, his body kept making him bite and bite until the fruit was completely eaten. Archie felt like vomiting and like worms had infested his insides. He heard laughter, cheeky, taunting laughter and it was resonating from inside his mouth.
He found himself in front of the mirror again opening his mouth. The lumps in his throat, he was horrified to recognise them as teeth, teeth connected to little mouths, smiling and taunting him. They chattered like an army of crabs. Archie fainted slamming to the bathroom floor. The many teeth now inside his head rattled at the collision.
Archie was out cold but whatever entities belonging to the little mouths inside him where wide awake. They giggled some more at his expense and pulled on his nerves like he where a puppet, they’d tapped into his brain like a computer virus and were now controlling him. His unconscious body was now standing, being controlled by these once fruit dwelling parasites. They knew what they wanted, they wanted to take over completely, and they wanted to share their siblings with the world. They wanted human beings to be their vessels like the ships explorers used to find the islands their fruits once resided in.
Tapping into Archie’s thoughts parasites rubbed their acidic fingers across his files picking out the information they needed. Archie’s body walked over to his desk and slumped down into his chair. His fingers rested on this computers keyboard and began to type.
“Hey guys I ordered one of these fruits and they were absolutely amazing, I can’t believe these have been hidden on the dark web! Why has the government tried to hide these from us? This fruit is better than drugs. Everyone needs to try them! They’re the most delicious thing I’ve ever eaten. Trust me you won’t regret it.”
