The Flying Object

from Black Blood Spells

alien encounter

Silvo leans over to kiss her but stops when a shadow blocks the moonlight. He looks above and a flying object passes.

“What was that? Did you see it?”

“It looked like a spacecraft. Let's run into the lighthouse.”

Silvo and Maryanne run to the lighthouse holding hands: “Someone is working there tonight.”

“Maybe they know what that was.”

Silvo knocks on the door and tries to open it, but it's locked: “Come here, there's a fire stairwell.”

Maryanne and Silvo hurry up the exterior stairwell, while the wind gets much stronger. They both freeze and hide when they hear voices.

“Sounds like German. Probably some Nazis running from prosecution, wanting to hide here... now it's their turn,” Silvo says.

“Do you think they will gas and work the Nazis to death now?”

“Probably not most of them. Wait, sounds like they are trying to buy their way through. The American wants their spacecraft in return but wants to know how it was obtained.”

Two more spacecrafts land while Maryanne and Silvo have to hold on tightly to the stairwell not to fall down from the strong wind gusts. Two men in spacesuits walk across the field toward the entrance. Dulles, the American lighthouse operator opens the door with the other man in a spacesuit.

“Are you thinking what I'm thinking?”

Silvo and Maryanne wait until the spacesuits enter the lighthouse and shut the door, then run across the field into one of the spacecrafts.

“It looks like a plane but much more advanced. Are you sure you heard them speak German?”

“You're right. This vehicle is much too advanced for humans. They must know all our languages. These are aliens.”

“I wonder what they want.”

“I'm afraid, I wouldn't know how to hijack this, let's go, before we end up in a new galaxy.”

“Come on, it's just getting interesting. Please, let's stay.”

“No, you're crazy, let's go, NOW!” Silvo urges and upsets Maryanne, who instead starts to push the buttons. “Let me first do this!”

Silvo runs for his life toward the yacht while the spacecraft becomes a bright light and suddenly takes off. The other spacecraft also becomes a bright light and follows. Inside the lighthouse, the spacesuit crew is stunned by their spacecraft leaving.

“Was Zum Teufel!” (What the hell!)

“Wir stecken jetzt hier fest!” (We are stuck here now!)

“Hell no!” Dulles consents. “It's just as well, you'd probably get shot if they found out you were intelligent. It's easier to stay here as an enemy.”

Silvo runs toward the yacht and jumps on board. Milo and Mahala have vanished along with their yacht. “That's a lot of cargo.”

“Yep, I thought we'd spend the night, that was a lot of work,” Lash explains.

“What? No, I don't think so. You didn't see the spacecrafts?”

Duke chuckles: “You must be losing it, my good man. Where's Maryanne?”

She was let inside the lighthouse and immediately fell in love with Dulles. It was like they already knew each other, maybe they did, I don't know.”

“Oh, sorry...” Duke sighs.

“Yeah, very. That's why I think we should leave.”

“No, let's stay. We'll beat him up in the morning, or we'll have to find a new model,” Lash suggests.

Maryanne walks around the dimly lit spacecraft to see if she can find a living being. She can see many darkened spaces that look like they move on their own at a quick glance but can't make them out. She hears an electric door attached to the floor unfold from the top, laying itself down, from a well-lit room with great windows of the starscapes and galaxies. Maryanne wants to hide in one of the dark spaces, but the movement within them makes her hesitate. She hears some steps of large feet approach. She must hide before it's too late and runs back toward the entrance.
