The Figure in the Shadows

HORROR.

By Muhammad Khizr FahadPublished 3 years ago 3 min read

It was a dark and stormy night, the kind that sends chills down your spine and makes you feel like something terrible is lurking just around the corner. Sally was driving home from a late shift at work, her hands tight on the wheel as the rain pounded against her windshield. She was tired and just wanted to get home, but something didn't feel right.

As she turned onto her street, she saw something move in the shadows. It was just a glimpse, but it was enough to make her heart race. She tried to shake it off, telling herself that it was just her imagination, but the feeling of unease lingered.

As she parked her car and made her way up to her front door, she noticed that her porch light was out. She fumbled in her purse for her keys, her heart pounding in her chest. When she finally got the door open, she breathed a sigh of relief and stepped inside.

But the feeling of unease only grew stronger. The air was thick with a musty smell, and she could hear strange noises coming from upstairs. She tried to tell herself that it was just the wind, or maybe a mouse, but she couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong.

As she made her way up the stairs, the noises grew louder. She paused at the top, listening carefully. It sounded like someone was whispering, but the words were muffled and unintelligible. Sally's heart was pounding in her chest now, and she felt like she was going to be sick.

She crept down the hallway, her eyes darting around nervously. The whispers grew louder, and she could make out the sound of footsteps coming from one of the rooms. She took a deep breath and pushed the door open.

What she saw made her scream. There was a figure standing in the corner of the room, shrouded in darkness. Its eyes glowed red, and its mouth hung open in a grotesque grin. Sally tried to back away, but her feet were rooted to the spot.

The figure started moving towards her, its movements jerky and unnatural. Sally tried to scream, but no sound would come out. She was trapped, paralyzed with fear.

As the figure loomed closer, she could see that its skin was mottled and gray, and its clothes were torn and ragged. It was like something out of a nightmare.

Just as the figure was about to reach her, Sally woke up. She was in her own bed, her heart still racing. She tried to tell herself that it was just a dream, but the feeling of unease lingered.

She got up and made her way to the bathroom, splashing water on her face. As she looked up in the mirror, she saw something move behind her. She whirled around, but there was nothing there.

But the feeling of unease only grew stronger. She could feel something watching her, something waiting in the shadows. She tried to tell herself that it was just her imagination, but she couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong.

And that's when she heard the whispers, muffled and unintelligible. She tried to ignore them, telling herself that it was just the wind, but the feeling of unease only grew stronger.

As she crept down the hallway, the whispers grew louder. She could feel her heart pounding in her chest, and her hands were slick with sweat. She knew that she was in danger, but she couldn't turn back now.

She pushed open the door to her bedroom, and what she saw made her scream. The figure was there again, looming over her bed. Its eyes glowed red
