On a crisp autumn evening, Ben and Sarah drove through the winding roads leading to Blackwood Hollow, a secluded town nestled within an ancient forest. They were on their way to visit Sarah’s aunt’s cabin for a quiet weekend away from the city. The locals had warned them about the Hollow, but like most, they brushed it off as small-town superstition.

As they pulled up to the cabin, Sarah felt an odd tension in the air. The trees around the cabin seemed almost alive, their twisted branches reaching out as if trying to pull her in. But Ben shrugged it off with a laugh. “Nothing to worry about, it’s just an old forest. Let’s go inside.”

The cabin was rustic but charming, with its creaky wooden floors and faded floral wallpaper. They settled in, lighting a fire to warm the chill that seeped through the walls. As night fell, a dense fog began to roll in from the forest, swallowing everything beyond a few feet from the cabin.

At first, it was silent. But as the hours passed, they heard faint whispers drifting through the walls. Ben raised an eyebrow. “Did you hear that?”

Sarah nodded, straining her ears. The whisper was soft but insistent, repeating something over and over. They pressed their ears to the door, trying to make out the words.

“Come closer… come see…”

Ben laughed nervously. “Maybe it’s just the wind?”

But Sarah wasn’t convinced. She had read stories about Blackwood Hollow, stories her aunt used to tell her when she was a child. They were meant to be bedtime tales, but they had haunted her ever since. Tales of an ancient spirit that lurked in the forest, whispering to anyone who dared to listen.

Determined to prove it was nothing, Ben grabbed a flashlight and gestured for Sarah to follow him. They stepped outside, the fog thickening around them. The whispers grew louder, echoing from the trees, winding through the mist. The words became clearer, and Sarah’s heart pounded as she heard them.

“Come closer… come see… welcome home.”

Ben stopped, shining the flashlight into the dense fog. There, just ahead of them, stood a figure, barely visible in the mist. It was a woman, her dress tattered, her hair hanging limp over her face. She was turned slightly away, but her head was tilted, as if she were listening.

“Who’s there?” Ben called, his voice breaking the eerie silence.

The figure didn’t move, but the whispers continued, coming from every direction now, wrapping around them, echoing louder and louder.

“Come closer… come see…”

A chill ran down Sarah’s spine. She tugged at Ben’s arm. “We need to go back. Now.”

But as they turned, they realized the path they had taken was gone, swallowed by the fog. No matter which direction they turned, they were surrounded by trees and mist. Panic began to set in. The whispers grew louder, more desperate, like cries from souls long forgotten.

And then, they heard footsteps—soft, dragging steps approaching them from behind.

“Run!” Sarah whispered, grabbing Ben’s hand and pulling him through the trees. They stumbled through the fog, branches scratching at their arms, roots tripping their steps. Every few seconds, Sarah glanced over her shoulder, only to see the figure still following them, gliding through the mist with an unnatural grace.

They finally broke through the fog, stumbling into a small clearing. In the center stood an ancient stone well, covered in moss and vines. A strange sense of dread washed over them as they approached it, feeling an invisible force pulling them closer.

Ben leaned over the edge, peering down into the darkness. The whispers were louder here, echoing up from the depths of the well.

“Welcome home…”

And then, as if compelled by an unseen hand, Ben’s body stiffened. He leaned further over the edge, his eyes wide and unblinking, as if in a trance. Sarah screamed, grabbing his arm, pulling him back with all her strength.

The whispers stopped, and for a moment, there was nothing but silence. Then, a soft, eerie laugh echoed from the depths of the well, filling the air with a bone-chilling sound that seemed to seep into their very bones.

Sarah looked around, her heart racing. The figure was gone, but she could feel it watching them, waiting for them to take just one more step.

They ran back to the cabin, slamming the door shut and locking it behind them. But as they collapsed onto the floor, gasping for breath, they realized they were not alone.

The whispers had followed them, filling the cabin with soft, sinister voices.

“Come closer… come see… welcome home…”
