Isla looks down at her watch and dreads the upcoming meeting, he’s already late, what did she expect? She pulls out her phone and texts Abby,
“Bee tell me why I am even doing this.” Isla glances at the people around her, all submerged in their own little worlds, none of them aware of the dangers around them.
“Your espresso señorita.” Isla looks up at the server as he sets down her drink, his innocent smile, and carefree demeanor, reminding her of a simpler time.
“Thank you.” She looks down at her phone ringing and answers ,
“Seriously, you have not spoken to the man in 100 years and you are still on this.”
“I could have gone a good 500 without this bullshit.” But in reality, she had seen him about 50 years ago and that is where the problem begins.
“Look it's a job and he refused to talk to anyone but you, so deal.” the line went dead, Isla rolls her eyes, as she puts her phone away. She notices the rain begin to fall outside of the restaurant, the steady beating of raindrops soothing her and canceling the noise around her. She stares at the people running for cover and closes her eyes as the memories flood her mind, taking her back to where it all began.
Stockton, CA 1919
As Isla and her uncle Miguel arrived in Stockton, her uncle encouraged her to explore, as he dealt with council business. She came from a long line of Lycan warriors that protected the council and Divian’s (all non-humans), against anyone not in line with the laws. Which was ironic coming from her, since her very existence was against the law, she was the reject of her family, a secret that everyone kept. An abomination as her lovely grandmother liked to put it anytime she saw her.
Isla didn't know much of what transpired during that time. Other than her father finding his mate in a sorceress. Upon her birth, her mother left back to her coven. While Isla returned with her father, she always felt that she had lost both parents that night, since her father never recovered from the loss of his mate. He would sometimes tell her stories, but every night she would hear the mournful cries of her father calling out for her mother Rita. His inner wolf took the loss the worst, causing the family to sedate him every full moon or risk him going berserk and never returning to his human form.
He constantly reminded her that she was the spitting image of her mother. After hearing it so often, Isla would spend countless hours staring at her reflection, looking and imagining her mother. She had long straight light brown hair, hazel eyes, full lips, caramel skin, and was 5’8. Her father ultimately sent her to live with his brother. Which had been the kindest thing her father had ever done. Miguel could care less who her mother was,
“You are my familia. The blood that runs through me, flows through you. If anyone would dare hurt you, they are as good as dead Mija,” he was the only family that made her feel loved and cherished. He taught her everything, constantly reminding her of their lineage, and to be a proud warrior.
As Isla walked into a bakery, her senses came to life. She smelled that the owner was dark fey, she kept her hand on her knife tucked smoothly into the leathers she wore. As she looked at the woman on the other side of the counter, she knew that any mortal would see a beautiful woman, while Divian’s would see a Fey. She on the other hand knew what dark Fey smelled like, she had encountered and killed enough to know. Her uncle specialized within the dark Fey community, which for the most part did not partake within the mortal round. They had been banished, for having started the dark war hundreds of years ago. Which, resulted in the slaughter of millions of Divian’s. But, Isla knew that not all Dark fey were evil.
“Hello dear, can I help you with anything?” Isla couldn’t detect anything amiss,
“I was unaware of dark fey integrating back into civilization?” The owner became tense and looked behind her as if preparing to escape, the fear that she saw in the woman's eyes made Isla relax .
“Fey you have nothing to concern yourself with, as long as you obey the order and laws within the mortal society.”
“I do ma’am.” The woman answered timidly, her body still tense, Isla nodded ,
“Since that’s settled, I will take a couple of your chocolate truffles.” The woman visibly relaxed and smiled, she was quiet for a moment, contemplating her next words,
“Can I ask how you knew?”
“Just special I guess.” The woman nodded her head, as she packed the treats into a small box and handed them to her.
Isla left the store and made her way down the main street, gazing at the different people walking, from all around the world, something she had not expected. She found a bench and made herself comfortable, as she partook in her favorite pastime of people watching. She had always been fascinated by mortals and all the trivial things they became obsessed with, and their endurance to persevere even though they had such short life spans. Isla at 28 years old was still considered very young within her community, where many lived for hundreds if not thousands of years, depending on your title and rank.
Suddenly, she was met with the most tantalizing smell of evergreen with a hint of peppermint. She looked around as a man approached her. His emerald green eyes making direct eye contact with her, she took him all in, he was about 6’4, with black hair that was combed back, wearing a navy blue suit, that only emphasized his strength. Her inner wolf made an appearance for the first time since the last full moon, they didn’t get along much.
“Mate” her wolf screamed into her mind, Isla took in a deep breath and smelt the faintest hint of pepper, dark Fey,
“I guess it's my lucky day with dark Fey” His emerald eyes began swirling, with black.
“Why did you walk away from the bakery, do you plan on reporting her?”
“Aw, is she your wife, sister?” Her wolf wined and her heart ached at the thought of him being taken. The problem with having a mate that was not your kind, first it was illegal since the dark wars and second, they could choose to reject you completely; not that it would shock her, but it would still fucking hurt.
“I asked you a question,” he demanded, her wolf maybe loved his dominance, but her other half tolerated no disrespect.
“That’s none of your concern and if you know what's best, I would change your tone dark Fey” He smiled
“I apologize, but it concerns me when I see new Divian’s in such a small corner of the world”
“Didn’t know dark Fey ran the town”
“We don’t, but we are just trying to make a living like everyone else.”
“Who’s disrupting it?”
“I guess no one,” he responded, relaxing and sitting back, taking in the scenery with her. She offered him a desert, which he accepted. It awakened her body and aroused her, this was not good. He smelled the air, his emerald eyes turning fully black, mesmerizing her. Then the scent of her uncle brought her back to reality.
“I have to go,” he reached for her,
“Wait, your name?” sparks ran up her arm from the small contact, she needed to leave before it was too late.
“Isla.”
“Isla it’s a pleasure and I’m Leon.” he leaned forward kissing her hand, she snatched it back, which caused him to smirk, it took her breath away, she had never run from an individual, but at that moment, she ran as if her life depended on it. She left and never looked back, her wolf mourned their loss of a mate.
Sacramento, CA 1969,
Isla had been assigned to escort the lovely princess Isabella and here she was babysitting a 100-year-old vampire, who drank till she couldn’t walk. Once the princess was safely back in her suite. Isla made her way to a 24/7 diner that she had passed earlier that day, with a big red neon sign displaying “Bob’s Big Boy,” as she sat and ordered her food, she smelled him immediately.
“Hello, Isla.”
“Leon.” they sat there in silence as the waitress delivered her order and asking if he would like anything
“No thank you, she’s sharing.”
“Am I?” he nodded, reaching over and taking a fry, they ate in silence and her wolf was restless, in the back of her mind. As she sipped her milkshake, he grabbed her chin and licked her, she froze, as he smiled at her
“You got a little ice cream there, I couldn’t let it go to waste.” she raised her hand requesting the check, she left the server a generous tip and walked out. She had to get away from him, he grabbed her hand and pulled her into his body
“We are not done.” He said in the deepest and richest voice, she was beyond aroused and he knew it, he kissed her.
“I have never stopped thinking about you.” She moaned and knew there was no fighting it. They went back to her room and as soon as she opened her door, he had her in bed naked in seconds. Her wolf was elated, their mate was touching them, kissing them, and pleasuring them she couldn't formulate a thought past what they were doing. He worshipped her body till she couldn’t move, their bodies mating and her wolf craving his mark. As they lay in bed they talked about meaningless things, which meant so much to her.
As the sun rose she contemplated giving up her life and starting anew with Leon, but those were not his plans. He explained that he had responsibilities that were more important than his needs and walked out of her life.
Barcelona, Spain 2019
“Isla.” His voice brought her back to the present, as he took a seat across from her, she felt deep-rooted hate for this man, that he could see clear as day.
“Leon, why am I here?”
“Nice to see you too.” Isla rolled her eyes
“I’m not here for small talk Leon” he agrees as he looks outside the window
“I heard a prophecy that greatly intrigued me. Of a Divian that has been born that hails from the four corners and will rule each house.”
Isla became unsettled. Although there were many Divian’s, the four ruling houses were Vampires, Lycan, Socercers, and Fey.
“I am the only one of my kind that has survived the dark war, being half-vampire, half-fey. I know you descended from the house of Lycans. Which brings me to our brief night together, your eyes glowed blue, why”
Isla stared at him, knowing what he was implying, Fey’s eyes turned black, Lycan gold, Vampire red, and sorcerer's blue.
“Did you conceive on that night.” Isla didn’t respond, becoming angry and wanting to lash out, but in fact, she had conceived.
“Isla do I have a child? The prophecy states that until the order is made, havoc will reign upon the earth and disaster will fall upon Divian’s and mortals alike” she looked at him and got up
“You have no child, Leon, goodbye” she walked away,
“I know you're lying and you will not keep my child away from me Isla.” though he whispered the words she heard him loud and clear. She knew this would not be the last of Leon, as she looked down at her watch, she shook her and sighed “Hello 2020.”
