'There was only one rule: don’t open the door. I fixed my eyes on the padlock in front of me, as I heard my boss, Benjamin’s, voice repeat from memory. I shouldn’t open it and yet I found myself hunting for a key. I look through drawers and his jacket pockets left in the office.
Finally, I found a pair of rusty bolt cutters under a stack of papers on his disheveled desk. My curiosity took hold of me and with one swift click, the door was open. The door was small, only three feet wide, and out of place. It opened left handed, hitting the desk, to a pit of darkness.
As I reach for the string, a click illuminates the closet.
“What?!,” I said out loud. There was nothing but a skeleton of a small animal.
A square shaped object covered in dust was on the floor. I leaned it on the computer and wiped the dust off, realizing it’s a mirror.
“I’M LEAVING YOU, THAT’S IT!” a woman’s ear-piercing voice proclaims.
It came.... from the mirror. Looking in, I don’t see my reflection. I see a woman with hair like Peggy Bundy. She continued to scream at a man I can’t see, and he’s screaming back. Before I could understand what they were saying, the mirror got knocked over, along with the women. I can only hear choking and see feet kicking as the men kneel over her until an abrupt silence. There was something familiar about the attacker’s jacket. I looked to my left and noticed it was the same jacket I looked through.
The man set the mirror upright, giving me a full view of his face. It is Benjamin. Footsteps make my head snap up, I find the same murderous eyes are staring at me through the mirror and the doorway.
