Intro
They say nothing good ever happens after 3 a.m. I never believed that—until the night someone knocked on my door at exactly 3:17 in the morning.
Body
The sound was sharp, deliberate. Knock. Knock. Knock.
I froze in bed, my heart racing. Nobody visits at that hour. I checked my phone—no messages, no calls. Just silence.
At first, I thought it might be a neighbor in trouble. But when I peeked through the peephole, the hallway was empty.
I tried to convince myself it was nothing, maybe the wind. But then—three more knocks, louder this time, right against the wood.
I didn’t look again. Instead, I locked the chain and backed away. That’s when I noticed something on the floor: a folded piece of paper had been slipped under the door.
With trembling hands, I opened it. The note read:
“Thank you for letting me in.”
Ending
A chill swept over me. I hadn’t opened the door.
I turned slowly, and that’s when I saw my bedroom door—
wide open.
