Ever heard of the lonely widows' bridge? It's said to be a ghost story around… *knocking on window* sorry… that blasted knocking… anyway, the bridge. Yeah, there is a bridge near my town that no one goes to, it's off the main street if you keep going and you can’t miss it. When I first heard about the story of it, I thought that it was just some ploy to… *knocking on window* a ploy to… scare children. I didn’t believe it of course and after a couple of beers, I and my friend went to go and check it out. If we only knew what we were getting ourselves into… I didn’t know it would come to this…
Let me start from the beginning, the bridge was built back at the bigging of the towns founding around the civil wartime. A young family of 3 lived near this bridge and one day the husband was away from his family to fight n the war. The wife heartbroken waited for his return while the neighbor of the family watched on in hatred and jealousy. A neighbor had always held a candle for the young wife and when he discovered that she had a child with him, he forced his way into their home once night fell. She refused him of course and he proceeded to assault her and attempt to kill her child.
She luckily escaped with her baby through the forest until she came across the bridge and took refuge under it with her baby in her arms. The baby would prove to be her downfall as it was distress from the tussle beforehand and now began to wail. Its voice carried through the forest making it easy for the angered neighbor to find them. Once caught there was nothing the mother could do as he brutally murdered both her and her child right under the bridge. He tossed both bodies into the darkened waters below and went walked back to his home. The wife’s body was recovered by some locals down the stream, but the babies were never found.
Word got back telling that it was the neighbor who did it, but when they came to the house they found him with a shotgun wound to the head. The husband died in the war so the town saw fit to bury the two together with a small gravestone for the baby. This however did not put her soul to rest...
People who know the story stay away from the bridge. If you go down to the bridge and stop halfway across, you can hear a baby’s cries that signaled the neighbor. Whatever you do… don’t go under the bridge… *knocks at the window*. We didn’t listen… they said you will never be seen again. We wanted to prove the stories wrong. What I saw will haunt me forever… we saw her, the woman weeping by the river banks, she was wearing white… but when she looked at us… she had no eyes. I ran… I ran as fast as I could home, I didn’t stop when I heard my friend scream for help. I can still hear the breaking of his bones and the ripping of his flesh *knocking at the window*... I went home and locked myself in my room. My family is out of town and no one else is around… her empty eyes are staring at me as I type this.
For the love of God… stay away from the old bridge and listen to old stories. *knocking at the window* I should have listened… young mother is trying to protect her baby even in the afterlife… *knocking at window*. I just hope I last until morning…
*noise of baby crying*
*window glass breaks*...
