Secret friend – part I.

"There was only one rule: don’t open the door.”

While Sara's parents warned her to stay away from the mysterious door at the end of the hallway, the girl found her thoughts repeatedly drawn to it. At one point it became nearly impossible for her to resist the temptation. With her brother away, she had no one to play with, and boredom only made her more curious about the mysterious door.

"What's behind it? Why are they hiding it from me?"

Sara had considered every possibility. She imagined a room filled with colorful Halloween candy, more delicious than anything she'd ever tasted. Other times, she shuddered at the thought that her parents might not be who they claimed themselves to be. Maybe she came from a family of vampires, and behind that forbidden door lay two coffins, surrounded by dried-up corpses — just like in the movies.

The tension was growing with each passing day. The girl's will to break the rule became nearly unbearable. What made it worse was noticing her parents sneaking in and out of the mysterious room. It only rose her curiosity further. She eventually decided, once her parents had fallen asleep, she would sneak in and find out about the truth.

And the night came... After all the endless minutes the clock finally struck midnight. Sara tiptoed toward the staircase with pounding heart in her chest.

She moved carefully along the wall, making sure to avoid even the slightest creak in the floorboards. After all, if her parents were vampires, they could wake at the faintest sound. But she quickly let go that thought — it seemed too unreal.

As she approached the door, Sara heard a blunt rustling sound from behind it. She froze.

"What is that noise? Is there something alive in there?"
