Review of "The Conjuring Universe"

My opinion on the films of the Universe of "The Conjuring".

Every horror movie lover has heard or seen the movies of the Universe of “The Conjuring” released by Warner Bros. Pictures and how they are based in real facts... well if you didn’t know that now you know.

Until today it was released 7 movies that form this universe them being (order of release):

“The Conjuring”;

“Annabelle”;

“The Conjuring 2”;

“Annabelle: Creation”;

“The Nun”;

“The Curse of La Llorona”;

“Annabelle Comes House”.

My advice (if you want to take it off course) is to watch the films in release order and if you don’t mind re-watch them in chronological order because the effect of watching after in chronological order is that you’re going to notice small details that you probably wouldn’t think about if you watch for the first time them in chronological order.

Right, I’m not going to go into much detail about the film because I don’t want to give spoilers away but bear in mind you can get some spoilers here!

For those who don’t know the stories told in these movies are experiences that Ed and Lorraine Warren had throughout their career of paranormal investigators. I’m going, to be honest, in my opinion, these films are only scary because they are based in real facts otherwise for me would be another horror film that didn’t have a lot of jump-scares (for me it’s really hard to get scared watching horror movies) but in “The Conjuring” 1 and 2 there are some moments that made my skin scroll especially the exorcism in the second film. It’s a scene well done and according to the eyewitnesses at the time it was confirmed that most of the things shown on screen happened (so you see now why it’s scary for me) but it’s just some particular moments. Don’t get me wrong the stories told are really interesting and it’s interesting to see what they went through to close whatever case they were studying but in some of the films like the “Annabelle” the doll used in the films is nothing like the real doll, in my opinion, is to make it scarier but if you look to the image down bellow, the real doll is scarier than the one used in the films. For it's scarier not because the way she looks but because she looks just like a normal doll and you wouln't think the doll was begin used by a demon to scare and possess people.

Fake vs. Real "Annabelle"

This makes me go to my next point, how much information in the films is accurate and how much is farfetched for the sake of the films? If you search for the real stories and the real witnesses, they say that a lot of stuff is real and some are not but, in some things, they don’t give much detail. How is suppose for us as an audience watch a film that we know is based on real events but not know how close to reality the film? Maybe for some people not knowing is for the best so that they can rest at night, knowing myself I know that I would've liked to know how real it was but if I didn’t like the answer that I get I wouldn't close my eyes that night.

The films “The Nun” and “The Curse of La Llorona” are the ones I lest like. It’s interesting to see how the film “The Nun” affects the others films so that’s not so bad, what’s worse it’s the way the film his shot, doesn’t seem real for me and there again we don’t know how much close to reality these films are. However, “The Curse of La Llorona” the only thing interesting in this film is to know an old Mexican legend but other than that it’s not a good film starting with how bad they represented the Mexican legend. Again, the story is interesting even though it’s not well told but the way the film was made seems like a joke which is a shame.

Later this year a third “The Conjuring” film is going be release and will be the end of the trilogy of “The Conjuring” films. Having experienced the other two films, I hope in not going to be disappointed with the last film.

What do you think? Are these films scary for you or not? Never seem the films of this Universe but you are going to give it a shot? You should the stories in the films are really interesting, they may not scare you but they are interesting. I will leave the trailer of the first "The Conjuring" film to see if sparks some interest in you.
