New Places

What would you do if you found out you were being followed in a place where you don't know anyone?

New places, eerie faces.

There was nothing particularly unusual about my day. I did my normal morning routine, went to work, went to the grocery store, then went home. The past few months I had felt like I was being watched but I chalked it up to normal jitters from moving to a new place. I had just moved here about six ago. Before this I had always been close to some family but this is the first time I'm in a place where I don't know anyone.

When I got home this particular evening I wasn't feeling quite myself. I was feeling lonely and, quite frankly, a little depressed. I decided to video chat my therapist where I had previously lived since I hadn't had time to find someone close by yet. She didn't have anything to say that I didn't already know. I was basically home sick. After the video chat I made my dinner and then sat down on the couch to watch my shows. I started having that eerie feeling as if I was being watched again. I tried to play it down but this time I couldn't shrug it off. I went through the house making sure all the doors and windows were locked and all the blinds were closed. Everything seemed normal. When I was done I decided it was late enough to brush my teeth and go to bed.

Around 2am there was a tapping at one of the windows. I jolted out of the dream I was having and realized it was coming from a window down stairs. In a dreamy daze, I got out of bed and carefully made my way down stairs. By the time I reached the bottom and could now hear the tapping louder, I suddenly awoke out of the daze and my stomach dropped. I was terrified to investigate. I carefully made my way through the house and found the window. It was the kitchen window. My hair stood on edge as I saw the outline of a figure through the blinds. I hadn't gotten close enough to the kitchen to be less than eight feet away. I had hoped I was far enough that they couldn't see me through the blinds. I quietly and carefully made my way back up the stairs to my room. I grabbed my phone and crawled into my closet since that was the closest place with no windows. I dialed 911 and told them some creep was standing outside my kitchen, tapping on the window. They said they would send someone as soon as they could and to stay in an area of the house where they wouldn't be able to see me.

At around 2:20am the police arrived. I was so relieved to hear them pounding on my door announcing "Police! Is everyone okay in there?" I answered the door and happily let them in. They said they investigated the perimeter of the house and said they saw foot prints by the kitchen window but that there was no concrete evidence someone was there other than the foot prints, meaning they can't figure out who it is. My heart sank to the idea that someone really could have been following me and watching me these last few months. I didn't know what to make of it since I don't know anyone here yet. I know the people I work with and that's about it. The police asked if I lived alone and how I get to and from work and the store. They advised that since I live alone I should call a friend or family to stay with me for a couple weeks. That didn't make me feel better. Since they can't connect any evidence and since I don't know anyone that could be doing this, they can't really investigate or do anything about it. I basically have to wait until something else happens. I'm trying not to freak out at this point. I guess I will have to make some calls in the morning.
