My Roommate Sleeps with Her Eyes Open
I wish that was the weirdest part

Story:
When I moved into the dorm, I was told I’d be sharing the room with a girl named Haley.
She wasn’t there when I arrived—just a perfectly made bed, a stack of books, and a single photo taped to the mirror. It was a black-and-white picture of a woman standing in a lake. No face. Just a silhouette.
Weird, but whatever.
Haley showed up around midnight.
She didn’t say much. Barely glanced at me. Just nodded, set down her bag, and crawled into bed fully clothed.
I tried to say hi, but she rolled over.
The first weird thing I noticed was that she never blinked.
Even when she talked, her eyes stayed wide open—unsettling, glassy, and too still. I thought maybe she had a condition.
Then I realized she never left the room.
Not for class. Not for food. Not even for the bathroom.
She just sat on her bed during the day, staring at the wall. Then slept—if you could call it that—with her eyes wide open.
I asked her once, “Hey, do you need anything?”
She didn’t answer.
Later that night, I woke up to the sound of whispering.
It wasn’t coming from her bed. It was coming from the mirror—the one with the photo.
I crept out of bed and leaned close.
The voice stopped.
I looked at Haley. She was still lying there. Eyes open. Mouth shut.
Then she smiled. Just a little. Like she knew I was scared.
The next day I talked to the RA.
“Haley? No, she moved out last semester,” she said.
My stomach dropped. “Then who’s in my room?”
She frowned. “You don’t have a roommate.”
I grabbed her hand and pulled her back to the room. But when I opened the door—Haley’s side of the room was empty.
No books. No photo. No bed.
Just mine.
The RA backed away slowly. “You okay?”
I nodded.
I wasn’t.
That night, I locked the door. Just me. One bed.
But at 3:12 a.m., I woke up.
The whispering was back.
I turned toward the mirror.
The black-and-white photo was there again.
And in the reflection—I saw two people in the room.
One of them was behind me.
